What is a website administrator?
A website administrator is a technical professional who maintains websites. Website administrators typically have a thorough knowledge of web maintenance and web development that help a website function, as well as skills in front-end development that contribute to a website's appearance and usability. Website administrators often work for a specific company or organization and focus on improving and taking care of its website and online presence. While most website administrators work in an office setting, there are also opportunities for website administrators to work on a freelance basis and perform job duties from home.
What does a website administrator do?
A website administrator ensures that a website is functioning properly and maintaining the image that a company or organization wants to convey. This can involve working with the technical side of websites, such as troubleshooting issues, setting up web hosts, ensuring users have access and programming servers. However, website administrators can also help with user-facing aspects of a website, like its appearance, navigation and use of media. This often includes designing web pages within a website, choosing fonts and colors for written text and formatting additional media, like images, audio files or videos, to display correctly.
**Responsibilities**:
- Planning, implementing, managing, monitoring, and upgrading the organization's website.
- Responding to and troubleshooting all website issues.
- Identifying and responding to all website security breaches.
- Ensuring that the website is protected by enabling the appropriate security measures.
- Updating HTML, CSS and JavaScript regularly.
- Conducting content audits to eliminate redundant and/or duplicate information.
- Creating appropriate website content aligned with the organization’s strategy.
- Ensuring website quality and efficiency by conducting regular test plans.
- Improving the user experience of the website regularly.
- Collaborating with all staff and management to ensure that the website aligns with brand strategy and meets the organization’s standards.
- Creating strategies to grow subscriber base and web traffic metrics.
- Ensuring full compliance on the website with all laws and regulations.
- Keeping up-to-date with industry best practices and monitoring competitor websites.
**Requirements**:
- A degree in computer science, IT, systems engineering, or related qualification.
- 2 years of work experience as a website manager.
- Expert knowledge of Macromedia suite, Adobe suite, Content Management Systems, and W3C Web standards.
- Highly proficient in HTML, XHTML, CSS design, cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility, firewalls (functionality and maintenance), Access, mySQL and JavaScript.
- Great understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Paid Per Click (PPC).
- Ability to troubleshoot website issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and outstanding problem-solving skills.
- Excellent content creation and writing skills.
- Fantastic time management skills with the ability to multi-task.
**Salary**: AED3,500.00 - AED4,000.00 per month
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Dubai: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
