As internists, gastroenterologists focus on adults. Their role is to prevent, diagnose and treat conditions and disorders of the GI tract in adult patients. But as broadly trained internists, they may also perform a general physical check-up. If a condition is found that falls within gastroenterology, they will provide the treatment.
- The gastroenterologist is an internist as well as a gastroenterologist and is expected to perform all the duties performed by an internist.
- Gastroenterologist is responsible for the medical care of assigned patients. Serves in a consultative manner as required in the Gastroenterology and is responsible for the management of Gastroenterological and related diseases. Provide particular expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic flexible endoscopies - upper GI Endoscopies, and Colonoscopies and expertise in performing liver, stomach, and small and large bowel biopsies.
- Diagnoses and treats diseases.
- Prepares and reviews case histories and clinical records.
- Performs and directs diagnostic procedures, including X-ray examination and clinical laboratory tests.
- Interprets test results examination findings.
- Prescribes such treatment for internal diseases as drugs, physical therapy, and dietary regimens.
- Monitor patient’s condition and progress and re-evaluate treatments as necessary.
- Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary.
- Conduct research to study, medications, treatments, or procedures to prevent, or control disease or injury.
- Provide consulting services to other physicians.
- Holds clinic daily.
- Follows policies and procedure for infection control and facility safety in accordance to hospital guidelines.
- Identifies and trains staff to develop professional skills.
- Exercises and maintains good discipline.
- Maintains good relationship with the other departments and colleagues.
- Participates in medical conferences and meetings inside and outside Advanced Center for Daycare Surgery.
- Attends and organizes CME.
- Develop a personal program of self-study and professional growth with guidance from the medical staff.
- Actively participate in ACDS committees as assigned by the Medical Director.
- Accept temporary duty assignments as directed by the Medical Director.
