**Job Purpose**

As a ALEF Front-End developer you'll have strong skills in web, API and want to work within multidisciplinary agile teams of developers, designers and researchers focused on products. You'll provide technical leadership, working closely with the wider team to ensure high quality code is delivered in line with the project goals and delivery cycles. You'll work closely with designers to deliver rapid prototypes as well as production code for which you'll ensure high accessibility standards are upheld. We expect familiarity with modern frameworks and languages, as well as working practices such as Clean Code, TDD, BDD, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Use markup languages to create user friendly web pages_
- Maintain and improve website.
- Design mobile-based features.

- Understanding of TDD and BDD and experience of automated testing approaches to web services.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders_
- Collaborate with back-end developers and web designers to improve usability.
- Get feedback from, and build solutions for, users and customers.
- Write functional requirement documents and guides.
- Create quality mockups and prototypes.
- Help back-end developers with coding and troubleshooting.
- Assist in budgeting process.
- Delivery of high standard technological initiatives_
- Ensure high quality graphic standards and brand consistency.
- Stay up to date on emerging technologies.
- Proactively advice on best practices.
- Act as a “frontend lead” on complex projects, providing support for product and delivery management and pragmatically weighing the complexities involved against the need to act.
- Deep knowledge of accessibility standards and developing web products that can be used easily by users with a range of assistive technology needs.
- Understanding of the use of Responsive Web Design.
- Knowledge of the git version control system.

**Education, Experience and Required Skills**

**Education**
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related preferred)
**Experience**
- Experience presenting work at user groups, business and to peers.
- Experience of prototyping and working closely with end users to iterate a product.
- Experience of designing and consuming REST APIs.
- Experience of building and scaling high-traffic websites.
- Experience mentoring or helping colleagues optimize their code.
- Detailed understanding and experience of front-end web development (HTML/CSS/JS, NodeJS).
- Experience working with UI and UX designers and translating designs to production code.
- Experience of working with JavaScript libraries.

**Essential Skills**

Technical Skills Required (Insert Level of Expertise Here)
- Knowledge of relational and non-relational database systems.
- System administration and configuration management skills.

JVM languages (Groovy, Scala, Clojure, Kotlin, etc).
- Mocking (any of the following Jasmine, Mocha).
- Build tools (Gulp, Npm, Grunt).
- NoSQL MongoDB.
- Outstanding ability to develop efficient, readable, highly optimized/maintainable and clear code.
- Working knowledge of unix-like operating systems such as Linux and/or Mac OS X.

Leadership and Operational Skills Required
- Mentor and train other developers in a non-line management capacity.
- An ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
- Ability to quickly research and learn new programming tools and techniques.
