Role Overview:

As a Principal Engineer – Payments & FinTech, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing secure, scalable, and high-performance payment systems. You will provide technical leadership, drive functional expertise, and ensure seamless integration of payment technologies across multiple channels.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Functional Expertise in Payment Systems

- Deep understanding of payment processing, including merchant acquiring, issuer processing, switching, clearing, and settlement.

- Expertise in card-based (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay, UnionPay, JCB) and non-card-based (UPI, A2A, wallets, BNPL, QR payments) transactions.

- Knowledge of cross-border remittance, instant payments, and real-time gross settlement (RTGS).

- Understanding of EMV standards, PCI-DSS compliance, and tokenization technologies.

- Design high-availability, scalable, and secure payment platforms.

- Define API-based microservices architectures for digital payment solutions.

- Ensure compliance with regulatory and security standards in payments.

- Work closely with product teams to enhance payment functionalities.

2. Technical Leadership

- Lead design reviews, code reviews, and performance optimizations.

- Guide engineering teams in cloud-native payment infrastructures (AWS, Azure, GCP).

- Provide mentorship to developers and architects on payment best practices.

- Collaborate with network providers, banks, and payment gateways for seamless integrations.

3. Payment Infrastructure & Security

- Implement fraud detection & risk mitigation techniques using AI/ML.

- Ensure secure cryptographic practices (HSMs, encryption, key management).

- Design and implement multi-layer authentication (3DS, tokenization, SCA).

- Optimize payment routing & switching for cost efficiency.

Must-Have:

- 10+ years of experience in payment systems, FinTech, or banking technology.
- Hands-on expertise in ISO 8583, ISO 20022, Open Banking APIs, SWIFT.
- Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or Go for payment solutions.
- Experience in cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka).
- In-depth knowledge of payment regulations (PSD2, PCI-DSS, GDPR, AML/KYC).
- Experience in integrating with payment gateways, card networks, and core banking systems.

Good-to-Have:

- Experience in blockchain-based payments (CBDCs, stablecoins, digital assets).
- Knowledge of AI-driven fraud prevention and anomaly detection.
- Experience with high-frequency, low-latency transaction systems.
