Senior Draughtsman - Substation Mechanical Engineer for Fire Fighting Systems We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Draughtsman specializing in substation mechanical engineering and fire fighting systems to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will produce technical drawings and documentation at the highest standards, work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with regulatory and client requirements. Key Responsibilities - Prepare accurate and detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, and schematics for substation fire fighting systems (fire suppression, detection, safety). - Develop general arrangement drawings, isometrics, P&ID, fabrication details, and installation layouts for mechanical fire protection infrastructure. - Revise and update mechanical drawings throughout all project stages, maintaining accuracy and alignment with evolving requirements. - Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, and external contractors to ensure documentation complies with project specifications, safety codes, and regulations. - Maintain organized drawing registers and version control for all mechanical system schematics and project documents. - Conduct site visits for surveys, as-built verifications, or to resolve design and installation coordination issues. - Contribute to continuous improvements and standardization of mechanical drafting methods and fire protection system documentation within the department. Required Skills - Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD software for mechanical design and 3D modelling. - Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate, and compliant technical drawings. - Effective organizational skills, capable of managing multiple simultaneous projects and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines. - Clear verbal & written communication skills, enabling confident collaboration with technical & non-technical stakeholders. - Capability to interpret technical reports, design calculations, and supplier data sheets to inform mechanical drawing outputs. - Proactive & solutions-focused, able to address technical challenges swiftly and independently or as part of a wider team. Qualifications & Experience - Recognized qualification in Mechanical Engineering, CAD Design, or related field. - Significant experience in mechanical drafting for substations or similar critical infrastructure, ideally with a focus on fire fighting and safety systems. - Familiarity with the design & specification of mechanical fire fighting installations such as sprinklers, gas suppression, hydrants, and fire detection in substation environments. - Experience with document management, drawing registers, and version control in an engineering environment.
