Roles and responsibilities

A Lead Control Engineer is a senior engineering role that focuses on overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of control systems used in various industries, including manufacturing, oil and gas, energy, automotive, process industries, and automation systems. They ensure that control systems are optimized for performance, safety, and efficiency, and that they align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Control Systems Design and Development:

    • Lead the design, specification, and implementation of control systems (e.g., PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), DCS (Distributed Control Systems)).
    • Develop control strategies and algorithms to optimize system performance and improve reliability, safety, and efficiency.
    • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and process engineering teams to ensure integration of control systems into overall system design.

  2. System Integration and Commissioning:

    • Oversee the integration of control systems with other operational systems and technologies, ensuring seamless functionality.
    • Supervise the commissioning and testing of control systems to verify that they are working as intended.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during the installation or commissioning phase to ensure a smooth transition to operations.

  3. Optimization and Performance Monitoring:

    • Continuously monitor the performance of control systems and identify areas for improvement.
    • Implement control optimization techniques to enhance system efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize throughput.
    • Analyze system data and performance reports to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.

  4. Project Management and Team Leadership:

    • Lead and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and contractors, ensuring that control engineering projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
    • Plan and manage multiple control systems projects simultaneously, including resource allocation, scheduling, and progress tracking.
    • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to junior engineers and team members.

  5. Safety and Compliance:

    • Ensure that control systems are designed and implemented in accordance with industry safety standards, such as ISA-88 (Batch Control), ISA-95 (Enterprise-Control System Integration), and IEC Functional Safety).
    • Conduct risk assessments and ensure that control systems meet all regulatory and safety requirements to minimize operational risks.
    • Ensure that control systems comply with local, national, and international standards and codes.

  6. Maintenance and Support:

    • Oversee the maintenance and troubleshooting of control systems, ensuring that they remain operational and that any failures or downtime are quickly addressed.
    • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for control systems to ensure long-term reliability and performance.
    • Coordinate with other departments to provide ongoing support for control systems during their operational life cycle.

  7. System Upgrades and Modifications:

    • Identify opportunities for upgrading or modernizing control systems to keep up with new technologies, improve performance, or comply with updated regulations.
    • Lead the implementation of system upgrades, including software and hardware replacements or enhancements.
    • Ensure that any changes to control systems are properly documented and tested to prevent operational disruptions.

  8. Collaboration with Stakeholders:

    • Work closely with project managers, operations teams, and other engineers to ensure that control systems meet operational goals and requirements.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations, and to provide updates on project progress and system performance.
    • Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to source control system components and ensure that they meet specifications.
Desired candidate profile
  • JOB PURPOSE:

Provide technical expertise on all engineering subject matters about Instrument/ Control System Engineering and design of green field LNG plant. Coordinate and interface with other Technical Disciplines and contractors/ consultants to resolve technical issues and ensure quality Instruments & Control engineering design execution and integrity.

Perform troubleshooting of process control, optimization, and plant information problems and maintain high availability of the systems.

  • QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or equivalent

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills

  • 17 years' extensive experience in the LNG, oil refining, petrochemical or gas industries.
  • Minimum 10 years direct experience in various aspects of Project management, cost & planning, contracting, and commissioning.
  • Must have 2 years experience in similar position
