  • Learning from operational, finance, retail and technical teams across the organization to identify opportunities, supporting the development of sound business cases and driving measurements of actions to continuously improve on the inputs and ultimately the outputs of the business
  • Learning how to work with large volumes and big data, in a highly complex business
  • Learning how to work with business intelligence tools, access and working with big data from multiple sources, and partner with the business to identify strategic opportunities.

A day in the life

As a business analyst intern you will be trained in one of our business intelligence, retail, or seller services teams. The internship provides an opportunity to learn and understand Amazon business processes, enhance analytical skills, and contribute to make significant business impact.

As an intern, you will be matched to a mentor. In addition to learning about an impactful project, you will have the opportunity to engage with Amazonians for both personal and professional development, expand your network, and participate in activities with other interns throughout your internship. No matter the location of your internship, we give you the tools to own your project and learn in a real-world setting.

  • Requirements Gathering:

    • Assist senior business analysts in collecting and documenting business requirements from stakeholders.
    • Help create user stories, functional specifications, or requirement documentation based on business needs.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting:

    • Analyze data collected from various sources (e.g., surveys, interviews, or business systems) to help draw conclusions and make recommendations.
    • Generate reports and dashboards that summarize findings and support decision-making processes.

  • Process Mapping and Documentation:

    • Support the mapping of business processes and workflows to identify inefficiencies or areas for improvement.
    • Document process changes, create flowcharts, and help design new processes or systems.

  • Assist in Project Management Tasks:

    • Help manage and track project deliverables, timelines, and milestones.
    • Coordinate between teams and stakeholders to ensure that the project is progressing according to schedule.

  • Testing and Quality Assurance:

    • Assist in the testing of new systems or process changes, ensuring that they meet business requirements.
    • Help create test plans, execute test cases, and report bugs or issues.

  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

    • Participate in meetings and discussions with business stakeholders to understand their needs and gather feedback.
    • Communicate findings, updates, and action items to team members or supervisors.

  • Market Research:

    • Conduct research to understand market trends, competitor strategies, and industry standards.
    • Assist in creating business cases or feasibility studies for new projects or initiatives.

  • Assisting with Business Strategy:

    • Support business analysts in identifying opportunities for process improvements or cost savings.
    • Help collect data to analyze the effectiveness of current strategies or programs.

  • Learning and Development:

    • As an intern, you'll likely be expected to learn about business analysis tools, methodologies, and best practices.
    • Gain exposure to various industries, company operations, and business strategies while developing your professional skills.
Desired candidate profile

1. Analytical Thinking

  • Strong ability to analyze data and identify trends, issues, and opportunities.
  • Comfortable with reviewing business processes, workflows, and identifying inefficiencies or areas for improvement.

2. Problem-Solving Skills

  • Ability to approach business challenges with creative solutions.
  • Using data and insights to help propose viable business strategies or process improvements.

3. Communication Skills

  • Clear written and verbal communication to document findings, communicate with stakeholders, and present reports.
  • Ability to work with both technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into understandable requirements.

4. Attention to Detail

  • Ensuring that all business analysis work is accurate, including collecting and reviewing data, reports, and documentation.
  • Identifying discrepancies in data or processes and addressing them promptly.

5. Excel and Data Analysis Tools Proficiency

  • Proficiency with Excel for creating spreadsheets, performing data analysis, and presenting findings.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and databases to assist in interpreting data and presenting it clearly.

6. Business Process Modeling

  • Understanding of basic business process modeling techniques, such as flowcharts or Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN).
  • Ability to document and map out business workflows, processes, and systems.

7. Research and Documentation Skills

  • Conducting research to gather information, identify industry trends, and understand best practices.
  • Documenting business requirements, user stories, or process improvements clearly and concisely.

8. Project Management Basics

  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies, such as Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall, to understand project timelines, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Ability to track project progress and assist in organizing and coordinating tasks.

9. Stakeholder Interaction

  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and feedback.
  • Building relationships with team members, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on business goals and objectives.
