About the Role

A Radiotherapist plays a crucial role in the treatment of cancer and other diseases using radiation therapy. They work closely with oncologists medical physicists and other healthcare professionals to deliver precise and safe radiation treatments to patients. The role requires expertise in operating advanced radiotherapy equipment developing treatment plans and ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Treatment & Care

  • Administer radiation therapy treatments as prescribed by clinical oncologists.
  • Explain procedures and treatment plans to patients addressing any concerns.
  • Position patients accurately for each treatment session using immobilization devices and imaging technology.
  • Monitor and assess patients' responses to radiation therapy managing any side effects.

2. Treatment Planning & Delivery

  • Work with oncologists and medical physicists to develop personalized radiation treatment plans.
  • Utilize advanced radiotherapy techniques such as:
  • IntensityModulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
  • ImageGuided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
  • Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT/SBRT)
  • Brachytherapy
  • Perform CT MRI and PET scans to assist in treatment planning.
  • Ensure treatment accuracy using 3D conformal radiation therapy 3DCRT) and dosimetry calculations.

3. Equipment & Safety Compliance

  • Operate and maintain linear accelerators (LINACs) CT simulators and other radiotherapy equipment.
  • Ensure strict radiation protection protocols to safeguard patients and staff.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on equipment and report malfunctions.
  • Adhere to healthcare regulations and safety standards as per IAEA ICRP and local regulatory authorities.

4. Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work alongside radiation oncologists physicists nurses and support staff to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate patient records treatment logs and radiation dose documentation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for case discussions and treatment modifications.

Qualifications & Skills Required

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Radiotherapy Medical Radiation Sciences or a related field.
  • Certification in Radiotherapy / Medical Radiation Therapy from a recognized institution.
  • Valid licensing/registration with a recognized health authority (e.g. DHA MOH HAAD or equivalent).

Technical & Professional Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of radiotherapy equipment imaging techniques and treatment planning software (e.g. Eclipse RayStation or Monaco).
  • Experience in modern radiotherapy techniques including IMRT IGRT VMAT and SRT/SBRT.
  • Familiarity with radiation safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent patient care communication and teamwork skills.

Experience:

  • 25 years of experience as a Radiotherapist in a hospital or cancer treatment center.
  • Experience working with advanced radiotherapy machines (LINAC CyberKnife Gamma Knife Proton Therapy or Brachytherapy) is a plus.
