EWEC fulfils these vital responsibilities through the short-term and long-term balancing of bulk supply and demand for distribution companies and authorities in Abu Dhabi and other Emirates. EWEC is supporting the government of Abu Dhabi and the government of the UAE by enabling the reduction of cost whilst also providing the increased security of supply that comes from a cleaner, larger, and more integrated system.EWEC is mandated to implement strategic initiatives that will achieve the 60 per cent clean energy target outlined in the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy's (DoE) Clean Energy Strategic Target 2035 for Electricity Production in Abu Dhabi, in addition to enabling the achievement of UAE Water Security Strategy 2036, UAE Energy Strategy by 2050, and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative. For more information, please visit www.ewec.ae.The Specialist Water Operability supports the development and execution of strategies for water system operability, focusing on the impacts of new capacity, demand management, and decarbonisation. They conduct in-depth performance analyses, maintain and refine operability models, and lead specific projects aimed at improving efficiency and compliance. This role ensures adherence to regulatory standards, manages documentation, and mentors junior team members. Additionally, they collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, promoting the integration of sustainable practices and advanced analytics to enhance system resilience and support EWEC’s strategic objectives.Job Specific ResponsibilitiesSupport the development and execution of water system operability strategies, focusing on new capacity, Commissioning and decommissioning schedule of production and expansion projects, demand management, and decarbonisation impactsProficient in the use of modelling tools like InfoWorks, Wanda and Optimatics for detailed analyses and the application of these tools to hydraulic studies such as steady state, Extended period Simulations, Water Quality and surge studyLead technical studies in support of business needs, evaluate opportunities, trouble shoot issues technical feasibilities, system limitations, etc. for Strategy and Planning, System Operator, Commercial Directorate, or other stakeholders as requiredCollaborate with the Water Operability Lead to refine and maintain operability models using advanced simulation tools and incorporating seasonal feedback to enhance accuracyConduct in-depth analyses of water system performance under various scenarios to identify potential risks, security of supply and recommend contingency plansPrepare and present detailed reports on water system operability, highlighting key metrics and providing actionable recommendations for continuous improvementEnsure adherence to all relevant policies, processes, and regulatory standards, maintaining high levels of quality, safety, and consistency in water operability activitiesManage the documentation and reporting of all water operability activities, ensuring records are accurate and readily accessible for auditsTake the lead on specific projects aimed at improving water system operability processes, focusing on efficiency and standards complianceCollaborate with internal teams, including the Water System Operations and Pumping Energy Optimisation Committee, to ensure integration and operational efficiencyMonitor and adjust water system operability models in response to changing market conditions and regulatory environmentsOptimise data collection and analysis practices to improve the efficiency and reliability of water system operability activities, fostering a data-driven cultureMentor and develop junior water system operability specialists, ensuring they are equipped with essential skills and understanding for effective system operabilityDrive the adoption of advanced analytics and digital tools within the team to enhance the accuracy and relevance of operability modelsManage relationships with key external stakeholders, including regulatory authorities and industry partners, to align with EWEC’s water operability objectivesPromote the integration of sustainable water management practices into daily operability activities, supporting EWEC’s environmental stewardship goalsCommunicate technical findings and strategic recommendations effectively to senior management and key stakeholdersEnsure comprehensive documentation of all water system operability activities to support transparency and regulatory complianceExecute and oversee water system operability tasks as assigned by the Water Operability Manager or Water Operability Lead, ensuring timely and effective completionInter-Departmental CoordinationSupport the coordination of activities with the wider Strategy and Planning function (i.e. Demand Forecasting, Integrated Planning, and Strategy) in order to identify optimisation opportunities and support integrationStandard ResponsibilitiesImplement all relevant section policies, processes, and procedures so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent mannerExecute the continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international leading practice’ and changes in business environment and leveraging insights. This includes supporting the related change management effortsEnsure adherence to all health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) policies and requirementsContribute to the preparation of timely and accurate reports to meet the section requirements, policies and standardsAdhere to EWEC values (including sustainability, integrity, collaboration and innovation)Upgrade technical skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis
