The Psychological Counsellor willprovide mental health support and psychological services tostudents and individuals with disabilities within the Center forInclusive Learning at Ajman University. The counselor will work closely with amultidisciplinary team to create a supportive environment forindividuals with diverseneeds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES& RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct psychological assessments toidentify individual needs and provide appropriate supportplans.
  • Provide individual and group counselingsessions to students and individuals with disabilities, addressingissues related to mental health, emotional well-being, academicstress, and personal development.
  • Develop andimplement tailored psychological interventions and support plansfor students with varying levels ofabilities.
  • Use evidence-based therapeuticapproaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT),psychotherapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques toassist students.
  • Monitor and evaluate theprogress of students, adjusting therapeutic strategies asneeded.
  • Collaborate with other departments,academic staff, and external specialists to ensure comprehensivecare and support.
  • Promote a culture ofinclusivity and well-being across the university, ensuring thatpsychological services are accessible to all students, especiallythose with disabilities.
  • Advise on mentalhealth accommodations and support for students withdisabilities.
  • Facilitate workshops, seminars,and support groups to raise awareness about mental health issues,coping strategies, and self-care.
  • Work closelywith faculty, academic advisors, and student services to ensureholistic support for students.
  • Collaborate withexternal mental health professionals, including psychiatrists andsocial workers, when needed.
  • Maintain opencommunication with students' families, respectingconfidentiality and ensuring appropriatesupport.
  • Maintain detailed and confidentialrecords of counseling sessions, assessments, andinterventions.
  • Participate in regular meetingswith the Center for Inclusive Learning team to review cases anddevelop strategies for enhancing studentwell-being.
  • Deliver a variety of servicesincluding academic accommodations, personal support, assistivetechnology, and learning accessibility.
Desired candidate profile
  • Master's inSpecial Education, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field,PhD's degree is preferred.
  • Validcertification or license in psychological counseling ortherapy.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience inpsychological counseling, preferably with individuals withdisabilities or special needs.
  • Experienceworking in a university setting or educational institution ishighly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE &SKILLS:

  • Strong knowledge of varioustherapeutic approaches and mental healthinterventions.
  • Excellent interpersonal,communication, and active listeningskills.
  • Ability to work effectively with adiverse population, including individuals with physical andcognitive disability, and emotionaldisturbance.
  • Proficiency in conductingassessments and developing individualized treatmentplans.
  • Ability to manage sensitive issues withtact, empathy, and cultural awareness.
  • Fluencyin both Arabic and English.

WORKINGCONDITIONS:

  • Work is normally performed in atypical interior/office workenvironment.
  • Limited physical effort isrequired.
  • No or very limited exposure tophysical risk.
