Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees the daily scheduling work routes to ensure all activities are organized in a timely manner.
  2. Supervises all plant propagation areas, ensuring manpower, tools, and equipment are used properly.
  3. Ensures that all propagation tools are sterilized properly prior to starting propagation.
  4. Coordinates with foremen and leadsmen for daily nursery activities.
  5. Maintains and repairs tools, equipment, and structures such as shade houses, greenhouses, fences, and propagation area desks and benches.
  6. Ensures that all hand or power tools are used as per safety procedures and that operators always wear PPE.
  7. Ensures that subordinates such as Foremen and Lead Men are properly maintaining the nursery plants—pruning, hedging, trimming, weeding, and cleaning.
  8. Ensures that all automated irrigation systems are working properly, providing adequate water to all areas without any dry spots.
  9. Ensures that all nursery growing plants are free of insect/fungus or nematode attacks.
  10. Ensures palms are free of red palm weevil or any type of insect damage.
  11. Provides proper supervision of all nursery plumbers, irrigation personnel, operators, gardeners, and laborers, ensuring proper completion of tasks.
  12. Provides horticultural improvements to the nursery.
  13. Develops and maintains excellent customer service for plant sales from the nursery outlet.

Qualification:
Engineering Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Botany, or another related field. Good command of the English language, both verbal and written.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:

  1. Knowledge of plant diseases and insects.
  2. Knowledge of plant fertilizers and nutrients.
  3. Knowledge of plant names, hardscape, masonry, carpentry, excavation, grading, drainage systems, and sand dune removals.
  4. Ability to effectively communicate, present information, and respond to questions, both verbally and in writing.
  5. Ability to provide good customer satisfaction with excellent service.
  6. Knowledge of productivity and costs associated with the production, operation, and maintenance of nursery facilities and produced plants.
  7. Ability to train subordinates.
  8. Extensive knowledge about botany, growing seasons, and climate zones is essential.
  9. Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize planning, and set out priorities with minimal supervision.

Experience:
Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience in cultivating and protecting trees and plants from diseases and insect infestations. Extensive knowledge of nursery plants such as palm trees, general trees, shrubs, climbers, hedges, ground covers, and seasonal plants. Experience with pruning and shearing plants in a nursery or landscape area.
