Roles and responsibilities

The Database Expert will beresponsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of thedatabase systems for an eInvoicing Central Data Platform (CDP).This role involves ensuring the integrity, performance, security,and scalability of the database architecture. The ideal candidatewill have extensive experience with database technologies, datamodeling, and optimization techniques to support high-volume dataprocessing and reportingneeds.

Skills

  • Proficiency with database managementsystems such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, orPostgreSQL.
  • Experience with cloud-baseddatabase services such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, or GoogleCloud SQL.
  • Strong understanding of datawarehousing principles and experience with BItools.
  • Knowledge of data privacy standards andcybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience withdata modeling tools and techniques.
  • Excellentproblem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-pacedenvironment.
  • Strong communication andcollaboration skills to effectively interact with variousstakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g.,Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, OracleDatabase Certification) are a plus.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, InformationTechnology, or a relatedfield.

 Minimum of 5 yearsof experience in database administration, design, anddevelopment.

  • Database Design andArchitecture :

    • DesigningDatabases : Creating well-structured databases basedon business requirements and data models (e.g., relational,NoSQL).
    • Normalization :Ensuring data integrity by organizing databases to reduceredundancy and dependency(normalization).
    • SchemaDesign : Designing tables, views, indexes, andrelationships for efficient data storage andretrieval.
    • DataModeling : Using tools like ER (Entity-Relationship)diagrams to create logical and physical models ofdatabases.

  • DatabaseImplementation :

    • DatabaseInstallation and Configuration : Installing andconfiguring database management systems (DBMS) like MySQL, SQLServer, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, orothers.
    • DataMigration : Overseeing the migration of data fromlegacy systems to new databases or between different DBMSplatforms.
    • DataIntegration : Implementing methods for integratingdata across different systems and applications, such as ETL(Extract, Transform, Load)processes.

  • PerformanceTuning andOptimization :

    • QueryOptimization : Identifying and optimizingslow-running queries by creating efficient indexes, optimizingjoins, or rewriting SQLstatements.
    • DatabaseIndexing : Implementing and optimizing databaseindexing to improve data retrieval times and queryperformance.
    • DatabaseScaling : Implementing techniques for scalingdatabases to handle growing amounts of data and increasing userload (e.g., partitioning,sharding).
    • CachingStrategies : Using caching mechanisms (e.g., Redis,Memcached) to reduce load on databases and improveperformance.

  • BackupandRecovery :

    • DataBackup Strategies : Designing and implementing backupsolutions to ensure data is regularly backed up and can be restoredwhen needed.
    • Disaster RecoveryPlans : Creating disaster recovery plans to recoverdata in case of failures or corruption (e.g., using point-in-timerecovery).
    • AutomatedBackups : Automating backup processes to ensureconsistency andregularity.

  • DatabaseSecurity :

    • DataEncryption : Ensuring sensitive data is encryptedboth at rest and in transit to protect it from unauthorizedaccess.
    • AccessControl : Implementing role-based access control(RBAC) and user authentication mechanisms to ensure that onlyauthorized users can access specificdata.
    • Compliance :Ensuring that databases comply with industry standards andregulations, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS, regarding dataprivacy and protection.
    • Auditingand Monitoring : Setting up database activitymonitoring to detect and respond to potential security threats,breaches, or performanceissues.
