Roles and responsibilities
  • Serves as aninterventional radiological consultant tophysicians.
  • Interprets all types of generalradiological examinations. Interprets and performs those requiringfluoroscopy, special procedures, angiography, ultrasound,radioisotopes, CT, and MRI scanning within the limits of his/her training, experience, and clinicalprivileges, and with the approval of the Chief ofRadiology.
  • Participates in physicianconferences and rounds.
  • Responsible to workwith the technologists and when appropriate to instruct thetechnologists in specialized views and positioning of patients whenunusual or difficult problemsarise.
  • Participates in the Quality ImprovementProgram of the hospital to meet internationalstandards.
  • Provides on-call emergencycoverage.
  • Participates in the orientation ofnew technologists and new radiologist.
  • Performsother miscellaneous related duties as requested by the ChiefRadiologist.
  • To follow appropriateinternational guidelines, DHA regulations & JointCommission International norms while treating or managing patientsas well as while discharging their professionalduties.

Qualifications

  • Graduateof approved Medical School with a valid license to practicemedicine; or certification by American Board of Radiology orpossession of a FRCR (Canada) in Interventional Radiology or theEnglish FRCR (or equivalent).
  • Specializedtraining or 4 years' experience as a practicingInterventional radiologist.
  • Excellent commandof oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language isdesirable but not essential.
  • Must have athorough knowledge of medical ethics, with particular reference tothe obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work;personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients;and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the MedicalOrganization.
  • Current licensure in country oforigin and with DHA license to practice in Dubai,U.A.E.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills asapplied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients& families.

1. Expert Knowledge in Imaging and MinimallyInvasiveProcedures

  • AdvancedImaging Techniques : Proficiency in interpreting andusing a variety of imaging modalities,including:
    • Fluoroscopy :Real-time X-ray imaging to guide procedures like catheterplacement.
    • Ultrasound :Used for guiding needle biopsies or draining fluids fromabscesses.
    • CTScans : To assist with precise needle placement forbiopsy or tumorablation.
    • MRI :Used for guiding procedures in complex areas, like brain or spinalprocedures.
  • GuidedInterventions : Performing procedures suchas:
    • Biopsies :Taking tissue samples for diagnosis using imaging to guide theneedle.
    • Drainage :Inserting catheters to drain abscesses, cysts, or fluidcollections.
    • Ablation :Using heat (radiofrequency), cold (cryoablation), or chemicals todestroy tumors or abnormaltissue.
    • VascularProcedures : Treating conditions like blocked bloodvessels, aneurysms, or varicose veins by inserting stents, coils,or balloons.

2.Vascular and Non-VascularInterventions

  • EndovenousLaser Therapy (EVLT) : Treating varicose veins usinglaser energy to close offveins.
  • Angioplasty andStenting : Treating blocked arteries, especially inthe legs, kidneys, or coronary arteries, by inflating a balloon toopen up the vessel or placing a stent to keep itopen.
  • Embolization :Performing embolization procedures to block abnormal blood flow,such as in cases of uterine fibroids, tumors, or gastrointestinalbleeding.
  • DialysisAccess : Inserting and maintaining dialysis cathetersfor patients with kidneyfailure.
  • IntracranialProcedures : Treating conditions like aneurysms orarteriovenous malformations (AVMs) in the brain using embolizationor other minimally invasivetechniques.

3. CancerTreatment

  • TumorAblation : Performing procedures to treat cancers bydestroying tumors directly with thermal ablation (radiofrequencyablation, microwave ablation) orcryoablation.
  • TransarterialChemoembolization (TACE) : A procedure used in livercancer, where chemotherapy is delivered directly to a tumor throughthe blood vessels, combined with embolization to block the bloodsupply to thetumor.
  • Radioembolization :Delivering radioactive particles directly into tumors, often usedin liver cancer.
  • Biopsy forCancer Diagnosis : Using imaging to guide precisebiopsy techniques to diagnosecancer.
