Roles and responsibilities

The General Practitioner plays avital role in the healthcare system by providing primary care topatients of all ages. They diagnose and treat a wide range ofhealth conditions and illnesses, as well as provide preventivecare, health education, and wellness advice to help patientsmaintain good health and prevent future medical problems. This rolerequires a high level of expertise, strong communication skills,and compassion towardspatients.

KeyResponsibilities

  • Conduct physical examinations anddiagnostic tests to diagnose health conditions: GeneralPractitioners perform physical examinations, medical historyreviews, and diagnostic tests to identify potential healthconcerns. They use the information gathered to create a treatmentplan.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans foracute and chronic illnesses: After identifying a health issue, theGP creates a treatment plan that includes medications, therapies,and lifestyle recommendations. They monitor the patient'sprogress and make adjustments to the treatment plan asneeded.
  • Prescribe medications and othertherapies to manage symptoms and promote healing: GeneralPractitioners prescribe medications to manage acute and chronicconditions, as well as other therapies to promotehealing.
  • Provide preventive care, such asvaccinations, cancer screenings, and wellness check-ups: GeneralPractitioners focus on preventive care to help patients maintaingood health. They provide vaccinations, cancer screenings, andwellness check-ups to catch potential health problemsearly.
  • Educate patients about healthy lifestylechoices, including diet and exercise: General Practitioners educatepatients about healthy lifestyle choices to promote overallwellness. They provide advice on diet and exercise, stressmanagement, and other lifestyle factors that can affecthealth.
  • Refer patients to specialists whennecessary for further evaluation and treatment: If apatient's condition requires further evaluation ortreatment, General Practitioners refer them to a specialist forfurther care.
  • Document patient care inelectronic medical records and maintain accurate medical records:General Practitioners maintain accurate medical records for eachpatient. They document each visit, treatment plan, and anymedications or therapiesprescribed.
  • Collaborate with other healthcareprofessionals, such as nurses and pharmacists, to providecomprehensive patient care: General Practitioners collaborate withother healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patientcare. They work closely with nurses, pharmacists, and otherhealthcare providers to create a team-based approach to patientcare.
  • Participate in continuing education tostay up-to-date on medical advancements and best practices: GeneralPractitioners must keep up-to-date on medical advancements and bestpractices. They participate in continuing education courses andattend medical conferences to stay informed.
