Legal Operations Director (UAE Nationals only

Description

The Legal Operations Director provides legal support, services, and advice on all legal matters including contracting, commercial, governance, and regulation. The role also requires ensuring that all University policies comply with the law and representing HBMSU in legal matters as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in achieving the University goals, objectives, mission, and vision while ensuring corporate compliance.
  2. Provide proactive legal assistance and advice on various legal issues including commercial contracts, dispute resolution, government funding, agreements, regulatory, employment, and governance.
  3. Collaborate with other departments on policy and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  4. Draft, review, and negotiate agreements and documents to secure the University's best contractual position.
  5. Provide legal and compliance support in areas of law, including research and analysis, legal advice, compliance monitoring, and managing tracking systems.
  6. Review ongoing cases and contracts, assessing legal implications for executive management.
  7. Counsel management on the interpretation and application of contractual and statutory provisions.
  8. Assist in preparing cases for litigation and manage relationships with external advocates.
  9. Respond to queries from Government or third parties as instructed by top management.
  10. Recommend improvements to departmental policies and implement procedures to minimize legal risks.
  11. Handle contract breach and termination processes and propose mitigation plans.
  12. Provide input on legal and regulatory risk mitigation strategies.
  13. Oversee legal services including counseling, contract review, drafting, negotiation, and dispute avoidance.
  14. Liaise with relevant departments to address identified legal risks.
  15. Provide legal protection and risk management advice to management.
  16. Review and advise management on the legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
  17. Support corporate governance and business development activities.
  18. Participate in committees and prepare reports and minutes as directed.
  19. Manage all transactions, disputes, and legal implementations.
  20. Ensure timely and accurate drafting of legal documents.
  21. Interact with personnel at all levels regarding their legal needs.
  22. Manage external advocate relationships during litigation.
  23. Handle intellectual property rights issues and their implementations.
  24. Ensure compliance with data protection legislation.
  25. Analyze implications of case law and regulatory matters affecting the University.
  26. Coordinate risk management surveys and insurance claim negotiations.
  27. Follow up on legal matters concerning lawsuits and arbitration.
  28. Adhere to internal and local information security and health and safety regulations.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Professional Experience: 7 years of relevant experience directly related to the job duties.

Education & Academic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Law or a related field from an accredited University; a Master's degree is an advantage.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Thorough knowledge of Dubai Government HR law, rules, and regulations.
  2. Knowledge of UAE legal practices and procedures.
  3. Clientele-centric with an understanding of the University's mission in education and research.

  7. Ability to manage and impart confidential information.
