JOB PURPOSE: Plans, leads, integrates and directs the 24/7 operations of DUBAL and EMAL’s Process Efficiency Teams, working alongside Power Operations, Power Maintenance and Desalination to ensure an optimised supply of electricity to meet Smelter operations and all other services support within EGA needs whilst ensuring all safety, quality and regulatory standards are complied with and low cost optimization of the power plant operation is achieved. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Strategy Development and Implementation Develops and directs the implementation of the functional strategy ensuring alignment to group strategy, EGA’s vision, mission, and corporate objectives. Ensures that functional strategy and related strategic plans are developed and implemented, which are aligned with the vision and mission of the organization. Ensures the provision of subject matter expertise for the assigned domain and provide counsel to EGA leadership on all related areas to facilitate the achievement of EGA’s strategy and functional strategies. Formulates, analyses, and drives the implementation of the energy management strategies to ensure compliance with fuel supply agreements, with the objective of minimizing the unit cost of aluminum produced. Develops EGA’s fuel strategy in line with the functional strategy to ensure EGA profitability is maintained. Ensures the growth of long-term contracts for the sale of power (to 3rd party customers) whilst reviewing and evaluating the 5-year strategy to provide counsel on any required updating in line with market needs to leadership. Drive the implementation of strategy for plant upgrades and improvements ensuring they are carried out in a sound techno-commercial manner so that the power plant can support future EGA expansion plans. Drives the implementation of the strategy for the fuel and efficiency improvements in conjunction with several government and nongovernment outside organization such as DEWA, EWEC, DoE, etc. Leadership Manages the effective achievement of functional objectives through effective leadership and by setting of individual objectives, managing performance, developing, and motivating team to maximise performance. Leads the talent development initiatives for the assigned function, collaborating with discipline experts and thereby ensure the availability of talent to fit business requirements. Acts as a role model and drive adherence to organizational values and ethics by employees of the assigned function to ensure the establishment of a value driven culture within the organization. Budgeting and Financial Performance Oversees the consolidation and recommends the functional budget and monitors financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues, areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, and potential areas of cost reduction or performance improvement opportunities are capitalised upon. Directs the development and implementation of functional policies, systems, processes, procedures, and controls covering all areas of assigned functional so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner. Power and Water Generation and Distribution Provides expertise and advice to Power Operations and Power Maintenance to ensure the lowest operating cost whilst maximising utilisation and delivery of energy resources to the site and third-party customers. Maintenance of Energy Assets In coordination with Power Operations and Maintenance provides guidance on the optimum maintenance programs for Power Plant Efficiency. Leads the development of the 5-year operational plans in line with the EVP Operation’s strategic vision. Builds productive relationships with third party organisations essential to the Company’s operations with respect to Energy Sector. Process Excellence Provides functional expertise and drives projects from concept to lifetime of the project and machinery to look at energy utilization, consumption, cost optimisations and savings aiming at reducing gas consumption, increasing internal rate of return whilst providing data for strategic decision making to achieve overall process excellence. Provides technical expertise and analysis to contract management between EGA with EWEC/DEWA/DoE to reduce the overall cost impact to EGA. Planning Provides expertise advice to Power Operations and Power Maintenance to ensure day to day and long-term maintenance planning with the objective of maximizing output capacity, availability, and reliability within agreed budgets. Technical Advice Provide technical advice on all aspects of day-to-day operations, financial optimisations and future site expansions related to power generation, distribution and utilities including ATA interfaces. Stakeholder Management Drives the development and maintenance of effective key business relationships with all relevant external/internal entities and all sections with the highest standards of business ethics. Develops and maintains effective business relationships with all relevant internal departments and external entities. Ensures compliance with all relevant safety, health and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls. Ensures employee safety, legislative compliance and a responsible environmental attitude and standard within legal limits. Drives improvement in environmental and recycling performance on site within the company’s approved financial constraints. Ensures all EHS policies, practices and procedures are adhered to by department personnel thus minimising the risk of workplace accidents and injuries. Change Management Leads the management of change through continuous improvement of functional systems, processes and practices taking into account global standards and changes in the business environment. Plans, develops, designs, improves, and implements modification and improvement projects to improve overall P&D plant performance. Provides technical expertise in relation to power operation support management in meetings and technical discussions with consultants and contractors. Reporting Ensures that all functional reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet EGA requirements, policies, and quality standards. Key Financial Dimensions EGA Fuel & Operating Costs (includes Gas, Distillate, Imports, Ops supplies) EGA Effective monitoring and analysis of savings through synergies within the Energy Sector. EGA Monitors the financial performance of the P&D section against budgets. Number of staff supervised: Direct Reports: 5 ; Indirect Reports : 2 QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s in Energy Engineering or equivalent engineering field. 10 years’ experience with including managerial accountability in a power plant operation for aluminium smelters. Background in power and desalination operations or other heavily energy demanding process industry. Skills: Balancing the preservation of the condition of company’s assets whilst striving to push plant performance to the limit. Be a lead auditor in the context of the ISO accreditations for environment and quality.
