The Group Medical Underwriter is a key professional responsible for evaluating and assessing group health insurance applications, determining coverage levels, calculating premiums, and managing risk. This role involves working closely with brokers, clients, and internal teams to ensure that policies are underwritten in accordance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:- Risk Assessment and Evaluation:
- Review and analyze group health insurance applications and medical reports.
- Assess risk factors and determine eligibility for coverage.
- Develop and apply underwriting guidelines and procedures.
- Policy Pricing and Premium Calculation:
- Calculate premiums and determine coverage levels based on risk assessment.
- Use actuarial data and statistical models to support underwriting decisions.
- Ensure pricing is competitive and aligns with company profitability targets.
- Client and Broker Interaction:
- Work closely with brokers and clients to explain underwriting decisions and policy terms.
- Provide support and guidance on complex underwriting issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with local regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Stay updated on changes in healthcare regulations and industry trends.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze claims data and trends to inform underwriting strategies.
- Prepare reports and presentations on underwriting performance and risk assessments.
- Provide insights and recommendations for improving underwriting processes.
- Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with sales, claims, and actuarial teams to ensure seamless policy administration.
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance underwriting skills and knowledge.
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in underwriting (e.g., CII, LOMA) are preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and underwriting software.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Knowledge of local healthcare market and regulatory environment.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in medical underwriting, preferably in group health insurance.
- Experience in the UAE is a must.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
- Ability to travel within the UAE as required.
