We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Tunnel Engineer to lead our tunnel design and delivery team in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Oversee the design of tunnels and underground structures, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards.
  2. Lead structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete tunnel works, steel structures, and temporary tunnel works.
  3. Develop empirical tunnel design and settlement assessment analysis, and FE modeling.
  4. Communicate project-specific structural design and construction principles and processes with clients, owners, and third parties through written reports and specifications.
  5. Provide constructability review and construction input to the design process for on-site projects.
  6. Deliver solutions to complex problems and use initiative to resolve tasks or problems that arise.
  7. Work independently or as part of a team, communicating clearly with colleagues, managers, and clients.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • BEng / BSc (Hon) or equivalent in civil or structural engineering.
  • CEng or PE accreditation is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the design of tunnels, underground construction works, and retaining systems with a focus on complex soil-structure interaction.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the Middle East is preferred.
  • Mixed experience of site and design is preferred.
  • Experience in developing innovative underground structural solutions using current design standards and guidelines.
  • Experience in tunnel design and construction in various ground conditions and using both TBM and open excavation (such as SEM/NATM) techniques.
  • Knowledge of analytical geotechnical software such as RS2, Plaxis, Abaqus, etc.
  • Experience with numerical analysis software (geotechnical/structural).
  • Detailed working knowledge of tunneling standards as adopted in the Gulf region.
  • Experience in using other international codes and standards is desirable.
  • Energetic, proactive, reliable team player with excellent communication skills and a solid understanding of customer service principles.
  • Experience of working closely with Contractors is preferred.
