Nursing Manager Job Description

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City - SSMC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nursing Manager to join our team. As a key member of our senior nursing and midwifery leadership, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient delivery of healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Work closely with senior nursing and midwifery leaders to develop and implement strategies that improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Healthcare Issues: Act as a focal point for all healthcare issues related to nursing and midwifery, providing expert guidance and support to staff.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Participate in budget preparations and budget control for the nursing and midwifery unit/ward, ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Clinical and Administrative Reporting: Provide senior nursing and midwifery leadership with regular clinical and administrative reports, highlighting key performance indicators and areas for improvement.
  • Strategic Direction: Support and work in partnership with nursing and midwifery executives to set the strategic direction for the nursing/midwifery department, aligning with the organization's overall goals and objectives.
  • Nursing Task-Force and Committees: Involvement in Nursing Task-force and Committees at SEHA and external parties, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Crisis Management: Take a lead role in coordinating hospital services during critical situations, ensuring a swift and effective response.
  • Staff Development: Support an environment that allows staff to acquire skills, and identifies and develops new ideas that ensure commitment to the organizational goals.
  • Legal and Ethical Dilemmas: Address immediate legal and ethical dilemmas in a professional, collaborative manner, referring to the relevant person for action.
  • Disaster Management: Take a lead role in managing disasters, codes, and incidents as per the Organization's policy and procedures.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Provide leadership in critical thinking, conflict management, and problem-solving, promoting a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: Responsible for developing or reviewing guidelines/policies related to Midwifery and Obstetrics across the system.
  • Best Evidence-Based Practices: Responsible for the implementation and sustainment of best evidence-based practices in the Midwifery/Obstetrics fields.
  • Staff Utilization and Bed Allocation: Monitor and evaluate appropriate utilization of staff in collaboration with the nursing and midwifery team, ensuring optimal bed allocation and staff skill mix.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborate with personnel from non-nursing and midwifery department/disciplines regarding issues that may negatively impact patient care, facilitating solutions as needed.
  • Committees and Task-Forces: Participate in committees, and task-forces that are interdisciplinary or interdepartmental, acting as a change agent for the organization.
  • Patient Flow and Staffing: Facilitate effective patient flow utilizing bed capacity and staffing resources appropriately, ensuring a smooth and efficient patient journey.
  • Staff Skill Mix and Workload:
  • Interdisciplinary Planning: Build relationships with staff, peers, and colleagues to support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental planning, aimed at improving patient outcomes.
  • Holistic Approach: Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach in midwifery/obstetric practices, promoting a culture of collaboration and excellence.
