About the Role

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Administration: Send circular technical administration and safety information to engine room crew on a monthly basis.
  • Training and Development: Arrange in-house training for all engine room crew either onshore or offshore.
  • Performance Evaluation: Maintain the periodic performance evaluation for the engine room crew quarterly.
  • Audit and Evaluation: Audit and evaluate the technical performance of the engineers and engine room crew during the site visit.
  • Compliance: Ensure that the engine room crew complies with the company policies & procedures for technical related issues.
  • PMS Implementation: Supervise the implementation of PMS to ensure reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety issues.
  • PMS Review: Review PMS regularly and amend it as required. Maintain a history for the same.
  • Spare Parts Management: Supervise the engine room requisitions to ensure the required spare parts are ordered properly in either quantity or quality.
  • Consumables Management: Prior arrangement for annual quantities of consumables such as filters and lubricants.
  • Fuel Consumption Monitoring: Monitor daily fuel consumption on board and ensure it is within the agreed limit.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor the engine room inventory on a monthly basis.
  • Contractor Management: Maintain contact with contractors to ensure completion of work at minimum cost.
  • Repair Requests: Review repair requests and compare requests with previous work accomplished on the vessel concerned and similar vessels to determine that expenditures are economically sound.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Review, examine, and submit updated reports for the impact of the new expected international regulations on the vessel and operation.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Cooperate with regulatory bodies to ensure that requirements for alterations, repair, or modifications are kept at minimum cost consistent with safety.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Machinery Management: Attend and investigate any major machinery failure.
  • Emergency Response: Take immediate corrective action in case of emergency, unplanned repair, or maintenance job.
  • Machinery Training: Conduct training and awareness of machinery casualties to enable us to determine the cause, and advocate methods of operation to prevent recurrence of casualty or unexpected machine failure.
  • Subcontractor Management: Liaise, coordinate, and supervise subcontractors.
  • Spare Parts Ordering: Ensure the required spare parts are ordered properly.
  • Dry-Docking Arrangements: Prior arrangements of the scope of work and timeframe for the vessel's dry-docking.
  • Vessel Repair: Attend repair/maintenance of the vessel when needed.
  • Inventory Monitoring: Ensure Marcap inventory is monitored regularly and take appropriate actions accordingly.
Fleet Performance and Seaworthy
  • Preventive Maintenance: Update the preventive maintenance plan for all machinery and equipment onboard under the manufacturer's recommendation as required.
  • Sea Trials: Attend to Sea trials, Annual Dynamic Position (DP) Trials, Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) audits, and delivery as required.
  • Fleet Visits: Regular visits to the fleet (onshore/offshore) to:
    • Audit and evaluate the general condition of the vessel.
    • Audit and evaluate the technical performance of the engineers and engine room crew.
    • Audit and evaluate all vessels' records, reports, and documents.
    • Ensure the implementation of the Plan / Preventive Maintenance System (PMS).
    • Ensure readiness of all main and auxiliary engines and safety equipment.
    • Attend surveys and other audits/surveys as required.
    • Attend vessel and barge inspections anywhere as required.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 Years as Chief Engineer with onboard vessel experience.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Marine/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of the Marine industry, Environment Safety Plan Management, and Licensure as a Master.
  • Skills: Strong technical knowledge of vessels, including mechanical, electrical (AC/DC), hydraulics, steel repair, and shipboard stability. Certificate in 'fire fighting & prevention', 'First Aid', and Incident Investigation. Certificate in Ship security officer, ECDIS, HUET, ISM lead Auditor. Possesses required certifications as mandated by the UAE government.
