Job SummaryThe Operating Room Specialist plays a vital role in the surgical team, overseeing the preparation and execution of surgical procedures. They are responsible for setting up the operating room, sterilizing and providing surgical instruments, assisting during procedures, and ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Assist in preparing the operating room for surgery, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are readily available.
- Responsible for maintaining the sterility and cleanliness of the operating room, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
- Assist doctors by handing them necessary instruments during surgery, and provide support with the supply of equipment and medications to anesthesia providers.
- Transfer patients safely from the operating room to the recovery room, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
- Assist anesthesia providers with non-invasive and invasive patient procedures, including peripheral and central intravenous and arterial line placement.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and physical condition, notifying anesthesia providers of any abnormalities.
- Clean and maintain anesthesia machines, monitors, and equipment according to established infection control protocols.
- Assist with patient laboratory tests and results, including blood gas analysis, coagulation tests, and other point-of-care tests.
- Obtain blood products and pharmaceuticals, assisting with preparation and delivery.
- Be available to assist in routine and emergency procedures, providing immediate support as needed.
The ideal candidate will possess certification and/or training in operating room technology or its equivalent, along with successful completion of an accredited surgical technologist course. Proficiency in medical terminology, physiology, and sterilization methods is essential. A current license to practice in the country of origin and a valid license to practice in Abu Dhabi are required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in the main operating room or a similar setting is preferred. Excellent command of oral and written English is necessary, with Arabic language skills being advantageous but not essential.
