Job Summary

As a Cytology Specialist at Health eCareers, you will play a crucial role in screening cytologic smears for malignant cells and microorganisms. Your attention to detail and analytical skills will be essential in determining specimen adequacy and reporting results to physicians. In addition, you will be responsible for preparing and staining cytologic preparations, maintaining productivity targets, and meeting accuracy ratings as described in the cytologic lab manual and performance evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

• Screen cytologic smears (both Papsmears and non-GYN smears) for suspicious and malignant cells, and microorganisms, and to determine specimen adequacy.
• Report out final Pap smear results on negative cases not requiring QC or physician review. Submit appropriate cases to physicians and for QCreview.
• Accurately enter Pap smear results into the hospital computer system (CORTEX).
• Be able to process specimens if Lab Assistants are not available (rare occurrence).
• Maintain productivity targets and accuracy ratings as described in the cytologic lab manual and the performance evaluation. Meet all other performance evaluation standards for human relations, problem solving, initiative personnel policies, maintenance, and clerical tasks.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
• Cytotechnologist Certificate required at hire.
• Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in science.
