Job Summary

The Chief Research Officer will serve as the Parkland Health executive medical expert in Clinical and Health Systems Research. This role will focus on research that addresses the social, economic, and environmental factors that contribute to health disparities and working in implementing programs that promote Health Equity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a Clinical and Health Systems research strategy, including capacity building with UT Southwestern and Parkland Health professional staff.
  • Leverage clinical and health system opportunities to attract funding related to research on health care delivery and outcomes in underserved populations.
  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate goals and objectives to support Parkland Health's strategic Clinical Research initiatives in collaboration with nursing and administrative leadership.
  • Collaborate with UT Southwestern Medical School and with other external higher education organizations to develop collaborative research relationships to jointly develop research initiatives.
  • Influence and motivate physicians, clinicians, and other professionals to participate in research initiatives.
  • Develop and support strategies to increase research enrollment of Parkland patient population and community involvement in research initiatives.
  • Serve and participate on division/hospital wide committees, quality improvement, and patient safety activities to ensure discipline representation/participation of area(s) of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with Population Health to understand the characteristics of the Parkland Health population, distribution, utilization of health services, and Community Health Needs Assessment.
  • Identify opportunities and serve as co-investigator or principal investigator on funded research which aligns with Parkland strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate to develop and facilitate a research mentorship program.
  • Lead and participate in clinical and epidemiologic research that aligns with Parkland's mission.
  • Contribute to and/or establish operational, functional, and/or business plans that have short to long term impact on department and/or functional results.
  • Responsible for coaching, leading, and mentoring emerging talent and developing the talent pipeline.

Requirements

  • Identify ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Make recommendations to supervisor, implement, and monitor results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrate knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develop effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seek advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
