Job Description

The Department of Surgery at the United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in orthopedic surgery at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the following areas:

Key Responsibilities
  1. Teaching and Assessment: Participate in teaching clinical skills to undergraduate medical students, including simulation lab training.
  2. Clinical Training Coordination: Oversee the clinical training of undergraduate medical students in junior and senior surgical clerkships at affiliated hospitals.
  3. Consultant-Level Service: Provide clinical service at a consultant level, including inpatient, outpatient, and on-call duties at teaching hospitals affiliated with the university.
  4. Research and Development: Develop and sustain internally and/or externally funded research projects in orthopedic surgery, engaging in clinical and/or laboratory-based research with other faculty members or clinical colleagues.
  5. Education and Administration: Participate in educational and college administrative functions, including committee work.
  6. University Growth: Contribute to the growth and development of the United Arab Emirates University.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold at least an MD or MBBS degree and certification of specialization and sub-specialization in orthopedic surgery, with recognized advanced training in their respective subspecialty. Evidence of prior scholarship, including publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals, is a key requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

The same qualifications as above are preferred.

Desirable Skills

Familiarity with international undergraduate and post-graduate medical exams, such as USMLE and Canadian Qualifying Examinations, is desirable. Knowledge of the operation and accreditation of graduate medical programs and certification/fellowship in North America, Australia, Europe, or the Arab Board is also desirable. Applicants should have a track record in teaching, including designing curricula, overseeing courses, and supervising student projects.
