Job Description

About the Role

Silk Route Recruitment is seeking an experienced Buying Manager to lead our menswear category, with a focus on developing and executing strategic buying plans to drive sales and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement multiproduct buying plans and budgets for the menswear category, aligning with the overall department and merchandise strategy.
  2. Collaborate with the Design team to ensure commercial, on-trend, and complete product propositions.
  3. Oversee range plans to ensure relevance and cost-effectiveness, and continuously improve buying processes to reduce time, improve margins, and anticipate/resolve bottlenecks.
  4. Work with planning and other teams to ensure efficient product management, including timely procurement and stock control.
  5. Responsible for sales and profit targets of the category, including budgeting, markdowns, intake margins, and OTB management.
  6. Manage critical path and build relationships with vendors and suppliers to secure capacities and negotiate prices and delivery times.
  7. Provide inputs to sourcing department for group/department sourcing strategy and ensure department compliance to product requirements and company processes.
  8. Conduct regular store visits for feedback and benchmarking product ranges, quality, and pricing.
  9. Stay up-to-date with the latest fashion trends and apply them during range building.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of Buying Manager experience in the retail industry, ideally in the UK/Europe within large retail/brand format.
  • Strong product knowledge in menswear buying.
  • Collaborative personality, able to manage an international team, receptive to ideas and new ways of working.
  • Global mindset, able to take a fresh view on new markets and trends.
  • Highly commercial and competitive, able to take a lead and have an acute understanding of products and commercials.
  • Sharp business acumen and broad skill set in management within large matrix structures.
