Job Overview

The Instrumentation Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of instrument and control systems within the facility. This role involves a variety of tasks aimed at maintaining and enhancing operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to Equipment Failures: Address breakdowns in instrument and control equipment while executing planned, preventive, and predictive maintenance tasks with minimal oversight to ensure production continuity.
  • Job Assessment: Evaluate job requirements, select appropriate tools and equipment, and execute tasks efficiently.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and rectify failures in instrument and control systems with minimal guidance.
  • Safety Compliance: Conduct maintenance activities in line with safety protocols, maintenance schedules, and operational standards.
  • Calibration: Complete all necessary equipment calibrations according to the established schedule and business needs.
  • Maintenance Records: Utilize the computerized maintenance management system (SAP) to procure spare parts and maintain precise maintenance documentation.
  • Issue Monitoring: Track recurring failures, propose, and implement modifications to mitigate issues.
  • Mentorship: Guide newly hired instrument mechanics in understanding plant operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Engage in initiatives such as Suggestion Schemes, 5S, Hazard Reporting, and Kaizen to improve Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and overall plant performance.
  • Reporting: Identify and report abnormalities, initiate repairs or replacements for worn-out components, and ensure a tidy work environment.
  • Collaboration: Assist other departments with equipment repairs and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or Technician.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Diploma in a relevant technical field.
  • Completion of PEC Craft Training.
Experience Requirements:
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in a smelting or heavy industrial environment following diploma completion.
  • No prior experience is required upon completion of PEC Training.
Required Skills:
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity with maintenance tools and basic computer skills.
  • Experience in installation, troubleshooting, and calibration of instruments.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and instructions.
  • Knowledgeable in the maintenance and troubleshooting of PLC control systems.
