Job Title: Inspector I - Quality (Coating / Insulation/ Refractory)
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify weather conditions meet applicable standards and specifications, taking into account environmental, time, and economic constraints.
- Familiarize yourself with manufacturer instructions and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for coating and insulation materials.
- Ensure data sheets are available, material traceability is maintained, and the correct material is used.
- Monitor contractors' performance, ensuring applicators are competent and certified where necessary, equipment is in serviceable condition, and inspection and test equipment are calibrated.
- Prevent weld areas from being exposed during blasting when pressure testing hasn't been completed, and protect flange serrations, instruments, etc., before blasting.
- Inspect surface preparation blast profile/cleanliness against requirements.
- Continuously monitor surface cleanliness and record surface profiles (at least three times during the coating process).
- Check wet film thickness during application and monitor application technique.
- Dry film thickness and recoating intervals should be monitored.
- Replace identification marks or tags if removed or overcoated.
- Conduct visual inspections after each coat, verifying correct shade, degree of gloss, and evenness, and checking for tackiness, cracks, holidays, runs, sags, wrinkles, patches, brush or roller marks, or other defects affecting coating quality.
- Witness destructive tests as required, according to project specifications (holiday detection, adhesion testing, impact resistance testing, cathodic dis-bondment testing, coating thickness on steel body, coating thickness on weld bead, peel test, overall adhesion degree, voids exposing bare metal).
- Check for damages and defects upon completion of each stage of painting/coating works.
