Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Specialist, Materials Expert to join our team at Adnoc. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and providing expertise on the integrity and maintainability of corrosion and metallurgy systems.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Corrosion Research & Testing:
    Oversee all material and corrosion testing, investigations, and research studies to support activities within the section and for the refineries. Make necessary diagnoses, provide conclusions, and recommendations. Approval of any new technology in the field of materials and corrosion monitoring, and oversight of field trials. Approval of qualification of chemicals used for corrosion mitigation, and oversight of field trials.
  2. Corrosion Monitoring & Control:
    Define and organize corrosion monitoring, evaluate corrosion control measures for equipment, storage tanks, and pipelines, and prepare necessary reports with suitable recommendations.
  3. Cathodic Protection:
    Oversee the review of the performance of existing cathodic protection systems design and the design of any new CP system, as required, highlight problems, and suggest improvements.
  4. Coatings:
    Approval of new coating systems and review of coating refurbishment plans.
  5. Specifications:
    Review projects specifications for corrosion monitoring, corrosion control, material, and quality assurance aspects as necessary. Write or oversee the writing of new refinery specifications in the field of materials and corrosion. Represent the refinery in the ADNOC committee responsible for writing/updating ADNOC specifications in this field.
  6. Failure Analysis:
    Review failure investigation reports, laboratory reports with a focus on materials performance and corrosion observations, analyze the same, validate them and propose any necessary recommendations.
  7. Corrosion Monitoring Tools:
    Review existing corrosion monitoring tools and advise on upgrading as required. Propose the implementation of new corrosion monitoring and oversee the trial of any new technologies.
  8. Metallography:
    Define the SOW of metallographic characterization of materials, propose appropriate techniques, oversee laboratory or field metallographic characterization of materials, evaluate microstructural condition, and validate issued reports.
  9. Corrosion Studies:
    Carry out thorough and detailed review of refinery units when required to define the corrosion loops and initiate detailed studies to meet the requirements of Risk Based Inspections.
  10. Integrity:
    Participate in the annual integrity review meeting and review the annual integrity report, cascade the materials and corrosion related recommendations of the annual integrity report and oversee their respective implementation.
Generic Responsibilities
  1. Supervision:
    Plan, supervise, and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
  2. Training:
    Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective section objectives.
  3. Budgets:
    Provide input for the preparation of the Department's budget and assist in the implementation of the approved budget and work plans to deliver section objectives. Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.
  4. Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures:
    Implement approved Section/Department policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures in order to support execution of the Section's/Department work programs in line with Company and International standards.
  5. Performance Management:
    Contribute to the achievement of the approved performance objectives for the Section/Department in line with the Company performance framework.
  6. Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
    Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes. Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.
  7. Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability:
    Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures & controls, and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices, and ADNOC Code of Practices.
  8. Reports:
    Provide inputs to prepare Section MIS and progress reports for Company management.
Requirements

Minimum Qualification:
Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with qualification in corrosion engineering.

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills:
8/9 years' experience in process and utilities of Petroleum Refineries, Chemical Process plants, Petrochemical plants, with 5 years as a specialist in Corrosion Engineering, preferably at an R&D center. Professional Certifications (as applicable for the job, not mandatory).
