**Responsibilities**:
**Evaluation**:

- Evaluate and diagnose diseases and pain of intraoral and extraoral tissues, inclusive of salivary glands, soft and hard palate, tongue, cheeks, lips, facial symmetry, head and neck lymph glands, and Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ).
- Evaluate oral functions such as speech, swallowing and mastication.
- Evaluate dental restorations and oral prosthesis including implants and the health of the surrounding tissues.
- Use intraoral and extraoral images and radiographs to diagnose dental pathologies.
- Use adjunctive tests to diagnose oral diseases such as thermal and electrical vitality tests, transillumination, selective anaesthesia, and others.
- Diagnose oral-facial pain of pulpal and periarticular origin. And identify non-dental chronic orofacial pain and refer the patient to the related specialty.
- Use adjunctive medical tests to diagnose dental and systemic pathologies.
- Diagnose and manage oral manifestations of systemic diseases, and actively support the patients to prevent systemic manifestations of oral diseases.
- Detect signs and symptoms of diseases beyond the oral cavity such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, substance abuse, eating disorders, and signs of neglect or abuse among others and refer the patient to specialist care.

**Emergency management**:

- Provide emergency treatment and palliative interventions to dental pain, and oral tissue irritations through (not inclusive to): placement of sedative dressing, pulpotomy, pulpectomy, incision and drainage, removal of foreign body, suture intra-oral wound, pericoronitis management, cutting displaced orthodontic wire, removing displaced bands. In addition to management of post-operative or post-surgical complications.
- Diagnose and manage dentoalveolar injuries (inclusive of facial fracture) through urgent intervention (dressing, re-attachment, re-placement, re-implantation, and splinting). In addition to referring the complex cases to specialist care.
- Manage medical emergencies in the dental office.

**Prevention of Oral disease**:

- Liaise with the patient’s primary healthcare physician to ensure patient cantered care approach through active monitoring and prevention of diseases.

**Oral Disease Management**:
Ø Temporary, interim, and permanent restorations for both primary and permanent dentition

Ø Direct and in-direct restorations using different techniques such as inlays, on lays, veneers, partial crowns, complete crowns, and simple fixed bridge.

Ø Coronal restorations involve the root canal space using post and cores.

Ø Treatment of simple gingivitis and periodontitis conditions.

Ø Referral of advanced gingivitis and periodontitis to a specialist for active treatment.

Ø Referral of severe gingival overgrowth cases (plaque and non-plaque induced) to a specialist including cases of “excessive gingival display, and short clinical/anatomical crowns “i.e. violation of biologic widths”.

Identify mucogingival defects including:
Ø severe gingival recessions, aberrant frenum attachments, and teeth surrounded by lack of keratinized tissues to a periodontist.

Ø Provide monitoring and maintenance care following the active treatment provided by a periodontist.

Ø Provide monitoring and maintenance to dental Implant.

Ø Manage oral infections by utilizing antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal medicaments.

Ø Identify and refer to specialist care conditions such as chronic orofacial pain, oral mucositis, bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws, oral pathology related to radiation therapy, dry mouth conditions, and other soft tissue or hard tissue mucosal lesions.

Ø Manage patients with a history of cancer therapy (evaluation, diagnosis, intervention, and referral when needed).

Ø Identify TMJ Disorders and refer the patient to specialist care.

**Surgical Procedures**:
Ø Removal of erupted tooth/root (simple extraction).

Ø Removal of teeth/root that requires uncomplicated surgical extraction (General dentists must use clinical judgment to identify and refer any complicated extraction case that requires specialist care. This includes: tooth/root located close to vital anatomic structure, tooth/root with un-usual anatomic shape, tooth/root close to pathologic tissue, and tooth/root removal that is expected to be associated with significant systemic complications). Additionally, the General dentist should refer cases that developed un expected complications during extractions like: ora-antral communications, displacement into the sinus, and remaining root fragments that could not be removed or others.

Ø Removal of pathological tissues associated with tooth extraction (consider biopsy for suspicious tissue).

Ø Completion of patient chart and remaining documentation

Ø Lock the patient chart within 24 hours.

Ø If required refer the patient to specialized clinic or hospital according to the patient condition.
