Montessori Teacher

**Desirable Qualifications & Experience**:
- Must be dedicated and passionate about Montessori early childhood education
- Able to speak English fluently and clearly
- Minimum of 2 years - experience in a similar setting with similar age group
- Preferably qualified Montessori Level 3 and bachelor’s degree in early childhood education
**The Class Teacher / Directress is responsible for**:
a) Implementing the educational programme to children under her care according to the Montessori method and vision & mission of ECC
b) Assessment of learning & progress (individual & group)
c) Preparing the learning environment
d) Class management
e) Promoting Positive Relationships & Well Being; carefully and actively monitoring the welfare and holistic development of every child
f) Following the Center policies and procedures to ensure children’s physical and emotional safety at all times
g) Safeguarding & daily risk assessment
h) Self - Directed Continual Professional Development
**More specifically she will;**
a) Implementing the FPM educational programme according to the Montessori method and FPM ECC vision & mission
- Develop lesson plans and manage the learning experiences for students to ensure the needs of the individual students and groups are met. Plan activities which are based on the level of development of the children and child interests (in accordance with the Montessori method) and which are inclusive to every child’s needs
- Observe children, assess learning needs and plan next steps as a continual process - Assist children toward self-directed learning and normalization
- Keep assessment records and planning for individual children and groups of children at least fortnightly, setting individual targets in a clearly labeled folder, accessible to management in the classroom
- Maintain Attendance and daily observations in a clearly labeled folder, accessible to management in the classroom
- Maintain a Child File for each child with individualized tracking of children’s progress
- Maintain Learning Journeys including a balance of photos, work samples, observations and other evidence of children’s progress
- Keep a copy of daily / weekly activity plans in a Planning Folder in class: (In case of absence the replacement Teacher should have access to plans)
- Submit weekly planning (either an outline of the week ahead or a ‘reflection’ plan of previous week - with next steps), to the Manager by Monday morning
**b) Preparing the Learning Environment**
- Maintain a neat, well-organized, and attractive prepared environment consistent with Montessori pedagogy
- Refresh the environment and assemble materials for the following instructional day and make minor material repairs as needed
- Keep a copy of the Staff / Parent Handbook in the classroom for reference
- Display a copy of the Weekly Schedule
- Display a copy of the Weekly Activity Plan
- Display the Learning Goal’s for each child
- Inspect resources and materials daily and replace or report damaged or lost materials
- Ensure that the materials and resources are maintained and displayed tidily with consistency, so that children can access resources easily
- Ensure the Montessori materials and other resources are developmentally appropriate to the children’s age and stage of development
- Create interesting and engaging display boards which depict the children’s interests and progress
**c) Class Management**
- Ensure that all preparation (for art and other activities linked to the daily plan) is prepared before the children come into class - and will not prepare while children are present
- Withdraw at regular intervals to observe and record observations and make formative assessment judgements in line with the Montessori activities the children are working with
- Ensure expectations are set during the first term or first 6 weeks of settling such as routines, behavior, transitioning from area to area within the facility, tidying up, and other Montessori practices
- Ensure that the Behaviour Management Policy is adhered to consistently between team members
- Be in the setting at least 30 minutes before the start of the day
- Never leave the children with only 1 adult - if a staff member must leave the classroom for any emergency reason, she must call another adult to join the class
- At the end of each term, check the classroom inventory list and submit a copy along with any order requests to the Manager
**d) Positive Relationships & Well Being**
- Participate in the induction and transition process, assisting new children and families in becoming familiar with the environment and practices
- Communicate effectively with parents about learning progress, developments and concerns via Parent & Teacher Meetings, Progress Reports as well as additional meetings with particular parents as needed / requested
