- Establishing priorities for repairs based on safety concerns, risk of damage, or potential loss of business revenue
- Training and supervising workers to ensure that they are able to perform their job duties safely and efficiently
- Performing hands-on labor tasks such as electrical work, plumbing repairs, painting, etc.
- Communicating with contractors, architects, engineers, and other team members about project status or issues that arise during construction projects
- Setting up schedules for various maintenance activities such as cleaning or repairing machinery or equipment
- Maintaining records of all maintenance activities performed by subordinates or contracted outside companies
- Reviewing service requests from tenants in order to determine what repairs are needed and when they should be scheduled
- Following up with contractors to ensure that work is completed on time and within budget guidelines
- Maintenance foremen are responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of a company’s machinery and equipment. They often work with engineers and technicians to identify and solve problems that arise. Being able to identify the source of a problem and develop a solution is an important skill for maintenance foremen.
- Maintenance foremen use a variety of tools and technology to complete their work. They should have basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical and computer systems to understand how to repair and maintain these systems. They should also be able to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics to understand how to repair and maintain machinery and equipment.
