The Head of Chemistry is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the effective delivery of the Chemistry curriculum and reporting directly to the Head of Science. The role prioritises developing the highest standards of teaching and learning. The Head of Chemistry will collaborate with other Science faculty members, parents and students to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters a passion for Chemistry.

**Requirements**:

- A bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field.
- Qualified teacher status (QTS) or relevant teaching certification.
- Significant teaching experience in Chemistry, preferably within a British curriculum secondary school.
- Strong knowledge of the British curriculum for Chemistry, including assessment frameworks and examination requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team of teachers.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- A commitment to promoting a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.

**Responsibilities**:
**Curriculum Development**:

- Develop and implement a comprehensive, challenging, and engaging Chemistry curriculum in alignment with the British curriculum.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in Chemistry education, research, and pedagogy, and integrate them into the curriculum as appropriate.
- Review and revise curriculum content, assessments, and teaching resources to ensure they meet the needs of diverse learners.

**Departmental Leadership**:

- Lead and manage the Chemistry department, providing clear direction, support, and mentorship to teachers.
- Conduct regular departmental meetings to foster collaboration, share best practices, and discuss curriculum enhancements.
- Observe and provide constructive feedback to teachers, promoting their professional growth and development.
- Oversee departmental budgets, resources, and equipment, ensuring their effective utilization and maintenance.

**Teaching and Learning**:

- Model exemplary teaching practices by delivering high-quality Chemistry lessons.
- Support and coach teachers in planning, implementing, and evaluating effective instructional strategies.
- Ensure that teaching methodologies, assessments, and resources are varied and differentiated to meet the needs of individual students.
- Promote an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry.

**Student Progress and Achievement**:

- Monitor and analyze student performance data, identifying areas of improvement and implementing appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with the school leadership team, parents, and external stakeholders to support student progress and achievement.
- Establish and maintain effective systems for tracking student progress, including accurate and timely assessment, feedback, and reporting.

**Staff and Parent Communication**:

- Foster positive and effective communication channels with staff, parents, and relevant stakeholders regarding curriculum updates, student progress, and departmental initiatives.

**Professional Development**:

- Encourage and support professional growth opportunities for Chemistry faculty members.
- Attend relevant professional development programs, conferences, and workshops to stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in Chemistry education.
- Share acquired knowledge and expertise with the department and wider school community.
