School Counsellor

**Job Purpose**:
The Counselor is responsible for supporting students identified with emotional, social, or special educational needs. They are integral members of the Achievement Team, employing a multidisciplinary approach to assist students facing academic or social/emotional challenges.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Key Responsibility 1 - Identification**:

- Support the identification of students failing to make expected progress in learning according to MoE/categories.
- Utilize available data and evaluation tools to identify students requiring social/emotional, EAL, or SEND support.
- Plan individual education and counseling support plans based on identified needs.

**Key Responsibility 2 - Teaching**:

- Provide support to identified students, particularly those failing to achieve at the same rate as peers.
- Set aspirational but achievable targets and plan challenging activities for identified students.
- Ensure the quality of support provision aligns with UAE Inspection Framework standards.
- Maintain accountability for students' well-being and progress within their Individual Education Plan (IEP) targets.
- Collaborate with teachers and colleagues to ensure positive student well-being and engagement.

**Key Responsibility 3 - Monitoring and Reporting**:

- Observe student behaviors and monitor progress in relation to IEPs.
- Maintain records of support given and student learning progress.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance for improvement in line with IEPs.
- Maintain high-quality records for tracking student progress using Learning Ladders.
- Report on student progress and well-being within the school’s reporting structure.

**Key Responsibility 4 - Advice and Guidance**:

- Provide advice and guidance to teachers on meeting learner needs in lessons.
- Contribute to provision mapping and annual reviews for students.
- Advise on play in learning at various age groups and support staff training.
- Inform decision-making about the Achievement Centre and provided provision.
- Lead on the development of play provision and ensure alignment with school improvement plans.

**Key Responsibility 5 - Processes, Procedures, and Resources**:

- Support the development of processes and procedures for inclusive environments.
- Ensure schools meet performance targets related to inclusion.
- Evaluate and recommend support resources and technologies for identified students.
- Assist in exploring resources and materials for particular student needs.
- Support curriculum review and adaptation to better meet learner needs.
- Implement accommodations within standardized and internal assessments.
- Ensure the Achievement Centre environment and resources meet learner needs.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Teaching qualification and relevant experience in counseling or special education.
- Experience working with students with emotional, social, or special educational needs.
- Knowledge of MOE regulations and standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

**Note**: This job description outlines the primary duties and responsibilities of the Counselor role. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to meet the evolving needs of the school.

**Reporting Structure**:
The Career Counselor will report directly to the head of department at Diyar Private Academy. Additionally, they will collaborate closely with the school leadership team and other staff members to ensure alignment with the school's goals and objectives.
