Accountable To
The job holder is responsible to provide guidance to ships masters in achieving safe and timely navigation of vessels within AD Ports limits. To represent the Port Authority when on-board the vessel.
Responsible for
**Marine Pilot Obligations**
The Marine Pilots agree to meet their obligations as a Marine Pilot, which includes but are not limited to:
Acting with loyalty, honesty and good faith to the Authority
**Including, but not limited to**:
The duty to exercise reasonable care and diligence.
The duty not to make improper use of information;
The duty not to make improper use of their position.
Working Relationship
Act appropriately as a Marine Pilot, including but not limited to using Authority resources efficiently and effectively:
Treating colleagues with courtesy, consideration and sensitivity;
Treat other port users and members of the public with courtesy and in a professional manner;
Being customer focused;
Comply with any AD Ports policies and procedures as amended from time to time.
Any work as reasonably directed by the Line manager as required provided it is safe to do so and is within the level of the Marine Pilot's skill, competence and training undertaken;
Objectives and Role Profile
Obtaining permission though the system from the Line manager before undertaking paid employment outside of that provided by the AD Ports. Refusals to grant permission will generally be for reasons of 'conflict of interest' or Occupational Safety and Health considerations.
Pilotage, Navigation and Berthing
Provision of efficient and competent pilotage services in accordance with the Port shipping requirements.
Assist with the coordination of all arrangements for vessels arriving, anchoring, berthing, unberthing, shifting ship and departing.
Key Tasks and Performance Indicators
Ensure all Port berthing and navigational are compliant in line with relevant marine regulations.
Provision of advice and expertise in marine related matters including: planning, construction and maintenance of navigational aids and marine structures.
Operate port control radio station as licensed operator.
**Internal Communication & Relationships**
Positive contributions at meetings to assist with Port trade development and expansion planning.
Liaise with Port personnel.
Maintain positive relations with the senior Port management personnel.
Interface with relevant Port personnel during pilotage movements.
Advise and assist Port Management with operational, technical and environmental matters.
**External Communications & Relationships**
Assist with the promotion of the Port and its services.
As required, attend and represent the Port at meetings and conferences.
**Health, Safety & Environment**
Adheres to Safe working instruction and SOPs.
Adheres to near miss and incident reporting.
Assist to set the Department Risk assessment.
**Training & Development**
Conduct in house training on marine related matters as required.
Qualifications/Experience/Competencies
Masters Foreign Going Certificate Class I (unlimited).
Comprehensive knowledge of shipping, navigation and port operations.
Actively seeks to keep informed regarding matters which may affect the day to day scheduling and methods of pilotage
