**Job Summary**:
The Fireman in a ship repair company is responsible for preventing and responding to fire-related incidents during repair operations. The role involves fire prevention, fire safety inspections, emergency response, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations onboard ships and within repair facilities. The Fireman works closely with safety officers, engineers, and repair teams to maintain a safe work environment, particularly when hot work (welding, cutting) is being carried out.

**Description**

**Fire Prevention**

Monitor and enforce fire safety regulations during ship repair activities. Inspect work areas, particularly where hot work (welding, cutting) is being performed, to ensure fire prevention measures are in place.

**Fire Watch During Hot Work**

Stand watch during all hot work operations (welding, cutting, grinding) to detect any signs of fire and prevent fire hazards. Ensure proper fire extinguishing equipment is readily available.

**Firefighting**

Respond to fire incidents onboard vessels or within shipyard facilities, utilizing firefighting equipment to contain and extinguish fires promptly.

**Inspection & Equipment Maintenance**

Regularly inspect and maintain firefighting equipment (extinguishers, hoses, fire alarms, etc.). Ensure all firefighting tools are in proper working condition and accessible at all times.

**Emergency Response**

Participate in emergency drills and be prepared to act swiftly in case of a fire or other hazardous events. Assist with evacuations and coordinate with emergency response teams when needed.

**Fire Safety Training**

Assist in conducting fire safety training for shipyard workers and other personnel. Ensure all staff are aware of fire safety procedures and know how to use firefighting equipment.

**Safety Compliance**

Ensure adherence to fire safety regulations and industry standards, including those established by local authorities, IMO, and classification societies.

**Documentation**

Maintain logs and reports of fire inspections, fire watches, equipment maintenance, and any incidents. Report safety concerns to the Safety Officer or management.

**Collaboration with Other Teams**

Work closely with safety officers, engineers, and repair teams to minimize fire risks during repair operations. Coordinate with external firefighting units if necessary.

**Education**

High school diploma or equivalent. Specialized fire safety or firefighting training (certification in fire safety, marine firefighting, or a related field).

**Experience**

Minimum 1-3 years of experience as a fireman or in a similar fire safety role, preferably in a marine or industrial environment.

**Firefighting Certification**

Certifications in fire safety, hot work fire watch, and basic firefighting techniques.

**Health & Fitness**

Excellent physical condition and stamina to handle the demanding tasks of firefighting. Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.

**Knowledge of Ship Systems**

Familiarity with marine fire hazards, fire suppression systems, and ship repair procedures.

**Emergency Response Experience**

Proven experience in responding to fire emergencies, evacuations, and managing fire hazards.
