Below is your job description which consists of and not limited to:
Ø Ensure that at all times the vessel is in a safe and seaworthy condition and ready for sailing. If not, the employer must be notified.

Ø All accidents/incidents must be reported and Seaman’s maintain all documentation relevant to the vessel.

Ø Responsible for the maintenance and appearance of the vessel, this includes responsibility for cleanliness and pumping out of boats.

Ø Responsible for the provision and maintenance of fishing tackle.

Ø Secure vessel safely to the wharf, jetty or mooring and ensure the vessel if left in secure state with all windows, doors, vents closed and follow procedures for engine room shutdown and domestic systems i.e. water pumps, gas bottles, barbeque bottles are to be turned off.

Ø Must ensure safe yacht operation by doing the following before a sailing trip:

- Pre-trip preparation (review charts, tide tables, itinerary etc.)
- A well prepared “Skipper’s Bag”
- Thorough pre-trip boat checkout
- Practice your man-overboard drills

Ø Make sure your crew knows where find and how to use:

- Life vests
- Fire Extinguishers
- VHF Radio
- First
- Life Ring

Ø Report any safety issues in Skipper Checkout Forms

Ø Must know the PROPER VESSEL OPERATION
- Know the “Rules of the Road”.
- Come slowly into a raft or dock so as not damage the hull.
- Wear only light soled shoes on board so as not to mark up the deck.
- Put a towel under the ice chest so it won’t scratch the varnish on the galley floor.
- Keep the winch handles in the storage shelves so they won’t get thrown overboard.

Ø Most importantly skippers are at all times required to be of a pleasant and helpful disposition and in doing so ensure an atmosphere of warm hospitality on board and a happy work place.

Ø You are obliged to obey wearing of uniform often and make sure to have proper grooming as well.

Ø Perform other duties/tasks that may be assigned by the Employer.
