**Background**

The Research Fellow (RF) will play an important role in the University of Birmingham Dubai’s project on increasing capacity, and research led teaching, in sustainability education in UAE Schools. This 18-month project is funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office through their UAE embassy. This project will equip school students in the UAE with the knowledge and skills required to engage and advocate for environmental sustainability through individual and community behavioural change. This project will also engage with industry and government to ascertain what green skills are required in the regional labour market and how schools can further engage in this area.

For schools in the UAE, the relevant outputs of this 18-month project include co-development of teaching materials for schools; teacher CPD events; provision of research-led workshops; collaboration with UK-based schools and an art exhibition. For employers in the UAE, the relevant outputs include a report identifying the green skills gap; employer CPD events and a conference.

**Role Summary**

This is a Dubai - based role for 12 months commencing early April 2024 until completion of the project at the end of March 2025. The Research Fellow will provide overall project facilitation - working closely with UAE schools and relevant industry/government organisations and the wider project team at the University of Birmingham (Dubai and Edgbaston campuses) - to ensure project milestones are delivered on time and within budget.

**Main Duties**
- Liaise with Schools/programmes engaged with sustainability research across both UoB campuses
- Lead on school events to be held on and off the UoB Dubai campus
- Lead on the production of sustainability teaching materials for schools
- Work with industry partners to identify key areas in the Green Skills gap
- Support any other outreach activities that will take place during the project
- Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
- Manage problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
- Support with administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research

**Person Specification**
- Knowledge of sustainability issues, especially those impacting on the UAE region
- Experience in developing and managing the preparation, planning and delivering of learning programmes both formally and informally including aspects of online and digital delivery
- Knowledge of the UAE education sector and its delivery incorporating creativity, innovation best practice and current policy
- Project management skills
- Significant and demonstratable experience of communicating effectively with a diverse range of groups and organisations
- Ability to identify opportunities to develop partnerships and networks
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Competence in using IT, Microsoft Office and online digital tools including a range of social media platforms
- Awareness of issues relating to access, social inclusion, cultural diversity and disability
- Understanding of the Health and Safety issues and risk assessment procedures associated with working with young people
