**Surveillance and Monitoring**:
- Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the water.
- Identify potential hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure patrons follow safety rules and regulations.
- **Rescue and Emergency Response**:
- Perform water rescues and provide first aid when necessary.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
- Administer CPR and other emergency medical treatments as needed.
- **Safety and Maintenance**:
- Inspect facilities and equipment to ensure safety standards are met.
- Report any maintenance or safety issues to supervisors.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in and around the pool or beach area.
- **Education and Training**:
- Educate patrons on water safety and proper swimming techniques.
- Conduct swimming lessons and safety drills as required.
- Stay updated with the latest lifeguard training and certifications.
- **Communication and Coordination**:
- Communicate effectively with other lifeguards, supervisors, and emergency personnel.
- Coordinate with team members during rescue operations.
- Document incidents and maintain accurate records of injuries, rescues, and other occurrences.
Qualifications:
- **Certification**: Must hold a valid lifeguard certification from a recognized organization (e.g., Red Cross, YMCA, or equivalent).
- **First Aid/CPR**: Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED is required.
- **Physical Fitness**: Strong swimming skills and physical stamina are essential.
- **Communication Skills**: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patrons and team members.
- **Observation Skills**: Keen observational skills to monitor activities and identify potential risks.
- **Problem-Solving**: Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in stressful situations.
Work Environment:
- Lifeguards work outdoors at beaches, lakes, and water parks, or indoors at swimming pools and aquatic centers.
- The job requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, and swimming.
- Lifeguards may work irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects, such as swimmers in distress.
- Endurance to perform rescues and administer first aid.
- Adequate vision and hearing to monitor activities and respond to emergencies.
