The School of Humanities and Social Sciences offers undergraduate programme in Media and Communication and staffs the General Education requirements for all undergraduates across UOWD, from the School of Business to the Schools of Engineering and Computer Science. The General Education programme currently offers options in English, Islamic Studies and UAE Studies, following the last revision made to the General Education by the Ministry of Education in 2019. The UAE Studies category of the General Education follows a broad interdisciplinary approach to topics that are of strategic interest to the UAE. Thus, for example, there are modules on the environment, international relations, urban sociology and public health:

- IRAE135 International Relations and the UAE
- URBS103 Urban Sociology
- PUBH115 Public Health
- GEOG222 Society and the Environment

The purpose of these modules is to instruct students in some of the most pressing issues facing the global community today, from a UAE perspective. The General Education programme is primarily concerned with instilling in students critical thinking skills and enhancing their empathy, emotional intelligence and communication skills. As the Ministry currently undergoes a third revision to the General Education program, we expect that the cultivation of these skills will become even more important for undergraduate cohorts. Regardless, then, of the specific requirements of any General Education program in the future, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences will continue to emphasise the fundamental nature of these analytic and lateral thinking skills through its curricular offerings, and is interested in academic profiles that complement this agenda.Requirements & Responsibilities

**Core responsibilities**
- Deliver lectures and/or tutorial components (depending on qualification level) of the IRAE135 to undergraduates
- Offer consultation times to students outside of classroom hours
- Complete grading of student work in a timely fashion, using clear rubrics, and with constructive feedback

A minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant field of the Humanities and Social Sciences (political science, international relations, sociology, anthropology and psychology)
