**Duties and responsibilities**
- **Advanced Clinical Skills**: Home care nurses with ICU, CCU, or ER experience often have advanced clinical skills in assessing and managing critically ill patients. They are trained to recognize subtle changes in a patient's condition and respond quickly to emergent situations.
- **High Acuity Care**: They may care for patients with complex medical conditions, such as those requiring ventilator support, hemodynamic monitoring, or continuous medication infusions. Their experience in managing high acuity patients prepares them to provide skilled nursing care in the home setting.
- **Emergency Response**: Home care nurses with ER experience are equipped to handle medical emergencies that may arise in the home, such as cardiac arrests, respiratory distress, or severe allergic reactions. They are trained in advanced life support techniques and can initiate interventions to stabilize patients while awaiting further medical assistance.
- **Wound Management**: Nurses with ICU or CCU experience often have expertise in wound care, particularly for patients with surgical wounds, pressure ulcers, or complex wounds requiring specialized dressings or interventions. They can provide comprehensive wound assessments and implement evidence-based strategies to promote healing.
- **Medication Management**: Given their experience in administering medications in critical care settings, home care nurses with ICU or CCU experience are adept at managing complex medication regimens.
