**Position Description**

The nurse is responsible for assessing the care needed by the children, providing quality care and continuously evaluating their progress.

**Major area of Responsibility**
- Provide physical and medical help to children
- Administer all medication accurately as per doctor's prescription
- Provide emotional and psychological support to children and parents
- Supervise and assist care assistants in carrying out their duties
- Observe, monitor, assess, report and document children's conditions
- Provide first aid, medical examinations and treatment to children

**Primary Objectives**
- Establish positive relationships with children, parents and other staff members
- Maintain strict confidentiality of children, centre and family information
- Work effectively and professionally as a team member
- Assist therapists with children's programmes and carry out any instructions given by therapists
- Ensure children receive adequate stimulation by staff
- Ensure staff and children are well prepared and safe during external outings
- Ensure that parents are regularly updated on child's progress
- Ensure children receive a well-balanced diet and regular fluid intake
- Promote independence in all children as much as possible

**Organizational Behavior**
- Report directly to the Doctor or Staff Nurse
- Internal contacts: Users of the centre's services
- External contacts: Childcare givers at other centres and community resources

**Specific requirements of the job**:

- Check that equipment is in good working condition and inventory of stocks is maintained at adequate levels. This includes thermometer batteries, suction operator, Nebulizer, 02 cylinders etc.
- Check stock of medication on a weekly basis and keep track of expiration dates on a monthly basis (particularly for medication)
- Keep track of general supplies (eg. Pampers, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, shaving foam etc.) and receive new deliveries whenever required
- Carry out doctors' orders
- Provide good hygiene for children and ensure that personal appearance of children is maintained to a satisfactory level (includes grooming, cleaning etc.)
- Assist with specific duties such as bath time in the morning, changing and feeding times
- Check the physical state of children every day to see if they have any scratches, skin peeling or swelling and inform management of any irregularities
- Other duties assigned by the Management from time to time

**Administrative Responsibilities**
- Receive patients on admission; review prescriptions for any medication, check all vital signs including height and weight
- Ensure that a daily record of medication is maintained and keep management regularly updated
- Maintain up to date records for each child, including medication records, health cards and appointments
- Ensure that all records are kept within an efficient filing system
- Outgoing staff should provide a comprehensive hand over to incoming staff
- To investigate and prepare reports relating any accidents, mishaps
- Attend monthly staff meetings
- Assist the charge nurse in the regular evaluation of new staff members
- Other duties assigned by the Management from time to time

**Physical Demands**
- Proper lifting techniques should be used at all times especially when lifting a child from a wheelchair to bed, bed to wheelchair, wheelchair to commode, wheelchair to chair and wheelchair to floor
