House of Shipping is recruiting for a Transhipment Supervisor/Manager on behalf of its client Global Shipping Company.

The job purpose of a Transhipment Supervisor is to coordinate and oversee the transhipment process of goods or cargo from one mode of transportation to another, ensuring that the transfer is efficient, safe, and compliant with regulations. The main goal of a Transhipment Supervisor is to ensure that the cargo is transferred smoothly between different modes of transportation, minimizing disruptions, and ensuring timely delivery.

**Job role description**:
**Coordinating Transhipment Activities**: The Transhipment Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the movement of goods during transhipment, ensuring that all necessary arrangements are made for the transfer of cargo from 1st leg carrier to the 2nd and if required 3rd leg carrier. They collaborate with various stakeholders, including shipping lines ad vessel operators, port/s of transship to plan and execute the transhipment process efficiently.

**Documentation and Compliance**: Transhipment Supervisors ensure that all necessary documentation, such as bills of lading, waybills, customs declarations, and other relevant paperwork, is prepared accurately and in compliance with international regulations. They may also be responsible for ensuring that all customs and security requirements are met during the transhipment process.

**Cargo Tracking and Monitoring**: They track and monitor the movement of cargo during the transhipment process, using various tracking systems and tools. They ensure that cargo is handled and transferred safely, and any delays or issues are promptly addressed to minimize disruptions and ensure timely delivery.

**Communication and Collaboration**: Transhipment Supervisors maintain effective communication with various stakeholders, including shipping agents, port authorities, transport companies, and customers. They coordinate and collaborate with these parties to ensure efficient and seamless transhipment operations.

**Problem Resolution**: In the event of any issues or disruptions during the transhipment process, Transhipment Supervisors are responsible for identifying the problem, finding solutions, and implementing corrective actions. They may need to resolve issues related to documentation, port congestion, customs regulations, or transportation delays.

**Operational Efficiency**: They continuously evaluate and improve the transhipment process to optimize operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction. This may involve analyzing data, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing process improvements.

**Compliance with Safety and Security Standards**: Transhipment Supervisors ensure compliance with safety and security standards during the handling and transfer of cargo. They follow protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents, damage, or loss of goods and maintain a secure environment for the transhipment operations.

**Stay Updated with Industry Developments**: They keep abreast of industry trends, regulations, and technological advancements related to transhipment operations. This helps them stay informed and adapt their processes and practices to meet changing industry requirements.

**Background and experience**:
Minimum 3 years experience in transhipment operations is highly beneficial. This could include experience in roles such as a freight forwarder, operations coordinator, shipping agent, or a similar position where knowledge of cargo handling, documentation, and coordination of transfers between transportation modes was gained.

**Competencies and skills**:
A solid understanding of transportation and logistics operations is crucial. This includes knowledge of different transportation modes (such as sea, air, road, and rail), logistics terminology, freight forwarding, international trade regulations, and documentation requirements.
Strong understanding of documentation requirements, including bills of lading, waybills, customs declarations, and other relevant paperwork, is essential. Familiarity with customs regulations, import/export procedures, and international trade compliance is valuable to ensure smooth and compliant transhipment operations.
