**Job Purpose**:
The Legal Counsel serves a critical role on a collaborative, collegial and innovative legal team, supporting the delivery of legal, risk and compliance services to MAF business partners and the broader stakeholders we serve. The Legal Counsel reports to the Senior Director and provides support to various business stakeholders on a variety of legal, compliance and risk issues.

**Job Details - Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:
Substantive Service Delivery / Matters:

- Research and analysis of complex legal and compliance issues, as well as monitoring new issues that may arise or changes to regulatory requirements;
- Support more senior counsels on the legal team on diverse issues of law and compliance that arise in the daily operation of the business, as well as emerging challenges;
- Respond to client inquiries assigned by Director or Senior Director;
- Draft and review documents, memos, correspondence, and contracts, as well as helping business leaders interpret and understand legal and compliance matters or complex language or deals;
- Assist in delivering legal and compliance trainings and initiatives to help business people understand and keep up with what the law requires, how they can manage risks appropriately, and when to ask for help; and
- Assist in preparation and timely submission of mandated legal and regulatory filings. Department Operational and Management Responsibilities:

- Create self-directed plans with articulated goals that shall be presented to and discussed with a Director/Senior Director;
- Seek out efficient and effective ways to improve your service delivery or the results clients want;
- Monitor budgets and assure proper financial management, tracking expense toward goals and completion of work;
- Coordinating with affiliated members of the company, outside counsel and other suppliers to help the Legal team deliver its work
- Robust use of data and technology to drive efficiency and efficacy of legal workflow.

**Qualifications, Personal Characteristics and Required Background/Experience**:

- Law degree and admission to practice/good standing in relevant jurisdictions
- 2+ years of substantive legal expertise, developed in a corporate or law firm setting serving sophisticated clients across a range of services.
- Demonstrates integrity in every action.
- Experienced in legal and business concepts relevant to your area of practice.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal. Ability to listen as well as speak.
- Highly organized and comfortable at multi-tasking.
- Proficiency to work on or ability to learn technology systems used by the company and particularly the legal team.
- Ability to work independently within timelines set, and collaborate with and report to senior lawyers and business leaders in charge of projects.
- Detail-oriented with a penchant for accuracy.
- Curious about learning the business and innovative ways to get work done.
- Excellent at building and supporting trusted relationships.
- Team player who works well across the legal department and across the organization.
