**BAT UAE IS LOOKING FOR A LEGAL COUNSEL (**Middle East Cluster**)**

**FUNCTION**: Legal & External Affairs

**LOCATION**:Dubai, UAE

**ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES**

This role is responsible to provide adequate and timely legal advice to meet the needs of the business whilst simultaneously meeting the requirements of the Central Functions and Global Functional initiatives.

**Reports to**:Senior Legal Counsel (**Middle East Cluster)**

**Geographic Scope: Middle East Cluster**

**WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR**
- Contribute to the development and realisation of the company’s vision and strategies.
- Contribute to the exploration, development and global prioritisation of functional policies and initiatives.
- Powerful and effective communication to the organization on the relevance and strategic business importance of the area of responsibility of this role.
- Ability to engage and communicate effectively with external stakeholders such as distribution partners and government agencies.
- Build multi-functional relationships, both as a member of a cross-functional business team and as a senior member of the leadership hierarchy, creating an environment where information and resources are shared in pursuit of business goals.
- Develop and exploit effective local networks, particularly amongst the legal community, to foster a positive image for the Business Unit, represent the Unit’s best commercial interests and exert a positive influence on all stakeholders, key opinion formers and national policy makers
- Scan the market environment, review and benchmark against competitors and develop local functional policies and initiatives which will enhance overall business performance.
- Utilise internal processes and networks to ensure the dissemination of knowledge and learning throughout the organisation, to facilitate productivity gains and continuous improvement

**ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**
- A good overall knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations in the GCC and wider Middle East region.
- A recognised law qualification through a reputable academic institution.
- 3-6 year’s experience in a corporate environment with a broad appreciation of other business functions, or equivalent experience in the private practice of law.
- Solid experience in drafting commercial and other contracts, policies and legal documents.
- Experience managing outside counsel and liaising with external lawyers to defend and protect the business Group’s interests.
- Experience advising on and handling corporate governance matters.
- Good written and oral communications, experience of representing companies to stakeholders, ability to work well with all levels of staff.
- Excellent knowledge of the local legal, political, social and economical context.
- Command of negotiation techniques.
- Arabic language skills preferred
