Chief Surveyor

Job Description

The Chief Surveyor will drive operational excellence and advise on survey best practice throughout the project lifecycle within our Marine business. Working closely with internal stakeholders, and with a focus on geo-data acquisition and innovation, the Chief Surveyor will develop and manage our survey competency and capability in line with business requirements, strategy and innovation opportunities. Predominantly office based in Dubai, with occasional field related survey assignments as defined by the Service Line Manager, you will work closely Project Managers, Project Surveyors, Operations Surveyors, Commercial team and Client Deliverables internally. Externally you will liaise with Discipline Experts, Trade Bodies and Industry Affiliations.

This position is instrumental for ensuring safe and efficient operations across all Geophysics and Hydrography related projects and as such commands a responsibility and necessity to set example ensuring quality control is instigated and followed. Key attributes for this role are a passion for driving survey excellence by identifying opportunities for optimisation and lessons learnt; technically advanced and enjoy providing technical support to field operations; taking/ using initiative for relevant decision making and leadership.

As required, work closely with field staff, operations technical team, Project Managers, Client Deliverables Department and Commercial Department to ensure projects are completed to clients specifications, ensuring that standards are met via analysis.

It is essential to have close and regular liaison with staff across the department, from onshore to offshore, to monitor job progression; project processing, interpretation, reporting and charting; ensuring quality standards are being adhered to. You will be expected to provide technical support for planning projects, implementation and upkeep of IMS reviews, writing and amending Work Practices and Work Instructions, and any associated training required; and client compliance from a commercial phase through to execution.

Key Results Area- Maintain and develop the company’s survey procedures in line with current best practice and new developments.-
- Provide and develop the technical support of field operations through use of in-house expertise, helpdesk(s) and advisory publications. Gather and distribute guides and notifications produced by other Fugro offices and via the helpdesk- Providing consultancy and support for all aspects of the company’s development of equipment and software (including generation of user specifications) for field operations. Act as Product Owner for in house developments.- As required assist and directly support the Client Deliverables / Data Centre Manager with the execution of given work and tasks.- Responsible for actively implementing and ensuring personnel follow quality control procedures and instructions in the field environment.- Organize own work and delegate tasks to assigned staff.- Check work of subordinate staff.

Experience
- 8 - 15 years experience - Minimum 8 years related combined geomatic / hydrographic / offshore construction surveying experience. Expert level in Marine survey operations.- Conversant with survey standards, equipment and computer operations, and a thorough knowledge of geomatic / survey software related to company activities.- Actively focused on achieving sustainable results with a passion for success. Strives for operational excellence in all goals set. A thorough background survey knowledge to first principles.- Strong communicator. Promotes open communication across the organization.
