**Job Summary**

Reporting to the Head of Retail Claims, The Claims Assessor will support the claims team by following Zurich’s best practices. Adhere to local regulatory and governance requirements throughout the life of a claim. Respond to and resolve queries from customers, ensuring consistency, quality and effective claims services.

**Job Accountabilities**

As a Claims Assessor, your role will involve:

- Complete required training for position by participating in all classroom and on the job training opportunities provided in the Claims Training Program.
- Handle low complexity, Life claims in accordance with best practices for line of business.
- Document claims file by accurately capturing and updating claims data/information in compliance with best practices.
- Determine liability by gathering relevant facts; utilizing applicable law; establishing basic principles of negligence.
- Confirm policy existence by identifying coverage on low complexity claims.
- Work to have a timely resolution to claims by developing case strategy; developing a case evaluation; escalating issues as appropriate.
- Establish timely reserves within authority limit by estimating value of claims.
- Assess damages by calculating applicable damages or range of damages allowed by law.
- Negotiate settlement of claim by establishing appropriate negotiation strategy and utilizing available tools and resources within authority limits.
- Develop a knowledge of company operations, contract forms, policy administration, life and disability claims principles, regulatory requirements, medical terminology and investigative techniques ensuring the timely and equitable settlement of claims and delivery of excellent customer service.

**Job Qualifications**

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with 1 - 2 years of industry experience.
- Effective Communications, Negotiation and Settlement skills.
- Demonstrate commitment to corporate values and service excellence.
