Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) is a flagship tertiary hospital in the UAE and the largest teaching medical center in Abu Dhabi. Basic Purpose of the Role

  1. Providing specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex psychological data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.
  2. Providing clinical formulations and comprehensive written reports regarding assessments completed or tests administered.
  3. Providing specialized clinical psychological input to patients and or families including assessment results and proposed psychological interventions for patients presenting with long-term complex clinical presentations in addition to providing consultation to multidisciplinary staff and managers of the service.
  4. Formulating and implementing plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a patient's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the patient's problems, and employing methods of proven efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
  5. Being responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
  6. Evaluating and making decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family, or group.
  7. Exercising autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and termination of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
  8. Providing specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients' formulation, diagnosis, and treatment plan.
  9. Undertaking risk assessment and risk management for individual patients and providing general advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management including responsibilities within the policies and clinical duties to safeguard vulnerable adults and children.
  10. Updating patient examination history files, recording unusual conditions/limitations, documenting examination time, room number, and technique factors. Recording any relevant clinical information obtained from the patient during the course of the examination that may be of benefit to the consultant when producing the report.
  11. Providing group therapy in both inpatient and outpatient settings as needed. Making sure that patient participation and input are integrated with the overall treatment plan.

Required Qualification:

  • PhD or Psy.D in clinical psychology.

Required Experience:

  • 4 years experience as a clinical Psychologist (Expat).
  • 2 years experience as a clinical Psychologist (UAE National).
