Job Summary

The School Librarian is responsible for managing the school library, fostering a love for reading, and supporting students and teachers by providing access to a variety of educational resources. Key Responsibilities

Library Management & Organization:

  1. Maintain an organized, updated, and accessible collection of books, digital resources, and reference materials.
  2. Develop and implement library policies, procedures, and borrowing systems.
  3. Classify, catalog, and label new materials according to standard library practices.
  4. Ensure the library is well-maintained, welcoming, and conducive to learning.
Supporting Students & Staff

  1. Assist students in developing research and information literacy skills.
  2. Support teachers by recommending and providing instructional resources aligned with the curriculum.
  3. Organize book fairs, reading programs, and literacy initiatives to encourage reading habits.
  4. Guide students in using library databases and digital learning tools.
Technology & Digital Resources

  1. Maintain and update digital library systems, including e-books and online research tools.
  2. Teach students how to access and evaluate digital information effectively.
  3. Integrate technology into library services to support modern learning methods.
Administrative & Professional Development

  1. Keep records of library transactions, overdue books, and resource usage statistics.
  2. Develop the library budget and manage the procurement of books and resources.
  3. Stay updated with new educational trends, library technologies, and reading programs.
  4. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to enhance the library's role in education.
Qualifications & Requirements

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
  2. Previous experience as a librarian, preferably in a school setting.
  3. Strong knowledge of library management systems and digital research tools.
  4. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Passion for literacy, education, and working with students.
  6. Familiarity with UAE educational policies and curriculum is an advantage.
