Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and manage a broad range of bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic, and other infectious diseases.
  • Provide consultant-level care for complex inpatient and outpatient infectious disease cases.
  • Lead management of severe sepsis and complicated infections requiring multidisciplinary treatment.
  • Diagnose and treat HIV and associated opportunistic infections using evidence-based treatment pathways.
  • Manage tuberculosis, including complex, drug-resistant, and clinically challenging presentations.
  • Provide specialist care for viral hepatitis and related infectious complications.
  • Assess immunocompromised patients with suspected or confirmed infections and coordinate individualized treatment strategies.
  • Provide expert consultation on healthcare-associated and hospital-acquired infections.
  • Review microbiology results, culture findings, antimicrobial susceptibility data, serology, molecular diagnostics, and imaging to guide treatment.
  • Develop and oversee antimicrobial stewardship initiatives focused on appropriate antibiotic selection, dosing, duration, and de-escalation.
  • Work closely with clinical pharmacists and microbiology teams to monitor antimicrobial resistance patterns and prescribing practices.
  • Develop, review, and implement infection prevention and control policies across clinical departments.
  • Advise on isolation requirements, transmission-based precautions, and appropriate infection containment measures.
  • Participate in outbreak investigation, epidemiological surveillance, case tracing, and hospital response planning.
  • Monitor compliance with infection prevention standards and recommend corrective actions where risks are identified.
  • Collaborate with intensive care, internal medicine, emergency medicine, microbiology, pharmacy, nursing, and public health teams.
  • Provide specialist guidance during emerging infectious disease events and unusual communicable disease presentations.
  • Educate physicians, nurses, allied healthcare professionals, and support teams on infection prevention and responsible antimicrobial use.
  • Maintain accurate consultation notes, infection control documentation, treatment plans, and clinical reports.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and governance committees.
  • Support hospital preparedness for infectious disease emergencies and evolving public health risks.
  • Remain current with international infectious disease guidelines, antimicrobial resistance trends, diagnostic advances, and clinical research.
  • Contribute to continuing medical education, departmental teaching, and professional development activities.

Ideal Profile

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
  • Board Certification in Infectious Diseases is mandatory.
  • Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in infectious disease practice.
  • Appropriate UAE consultant licensing or eligibility to obtain the required professional license.
  • Strong experience managing severe, complicated, and communicable infectious diseases.
  • Demonstrated expertise in sepsis, HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, and infections affecting immunocompromised patients.
  • Practical experience developing or leading antimicrobial stewardship programs.
  • Strong knowledge of infection prevention, healthcare-associated infections, surveillance, and outbreak control.
  • Ability to interpret complex microbiology and antimicrobial susceptibility results in clinical context.
