Role Description
The Finishing Carpenter role at SOVA Designs is a full-time, on-site position based in Umm Al Quwain. The Finishing Carpenter will install and complete interior woodwork, including doors, trims, moldings, cabinetry, panels, and other detailed carpentry elements. Daily tasks include reading and interpreting drawings, measuring and cutting materials, assembling and fitting components, and ensuring precise alignment and clean finishes. The role involves using hand and power tools safely, sanding and preparing surfaces, and coordinating with site supervisors and other trades to meet project timelines and quality standards. The Finishing Carpenter is also responsible for maintaining a tidy work area, following safety procedures, and reporting material or design issues promptly.
Qualifications
- Solid experience in finishing carpentry, including installation of doors, frames, skirting, architraves, wall paneling, and custom cabinetry.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, measurements, and layout plans with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools (e.g., saws, drills, sanders, nail guns) and working with wood, laminates, and related materials.
- Knowledge of surface preparation, sanding, fitting, and basic repair techniques to achieve high-quality finishes.
- Understanding of on-site safety practices, proper tool handling, and adherence to relevant workplace safety standards.
- Strong time management skills and ability to work efficiently to meet project deadlines with minimal rework.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with supervisors, designers, and other trades on site.
- Previous experience in interior fit-out or joinery in residential or commercial projects; GCC experience is an advantage.
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including standing, lifting, and working with tools for extended periods.
- Relevant vocational training or certification in carpentry or joinery is preferred; additional technical courses are a plus.
